Lady Hawks Win in Over Time with Yoakum, 45-41
Saturday, January 24th, 2015Canyon Lake Lady Hawks won their must win game in overtime against Yoakum last Friday night, 45-41.
Sarah Schneider scores 14 points in win over Yoakum to keep the Hawks in the thick of their District 26-4A race.
The Hawks were missing in action in those first two quarters as Yoakum had successfully put a lid on the rim, keeping Canyon Lake with a dismal first half of shooting.
“Good win, but it hurt going 3 for 31 from the floor early,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher stated. “I was proud of the girls effort early but felt we did not have the edge defensively we needed.”
That certainly played out in the second quarter as the Bulldogs outscored CL eight points going into halftime having a double digit lead, 23-12.
Yoakum forgot to take the lid off that same rim CL played in the first half and held the Bulldogs to 4 points in the third quarter allowing Canyon Lake to take a three point lead going into the fourth quarter of play.
“At half, we switched to a 2-3 zone defense hoping to throw them off their game and it definitely worked for the third quarter allowing us to claw back in,” Coach Gallagher surmised.
Hawks Beat Eagles in Soccer Action Friday Night
Saturday, January 24th, 2015CL Hawks took care of business in their win over Pleasanton last Friday night at the Hawk Stadium with a hat trick by Mike Thorpe and Buddy Glass keeping the Eagles from scoring.

The win evened Canyon Lake’s record to 2-2 this year with their win over the Eagles.
CL kept this Pleasanton team from getting much offense as James Alexander also had a goal to arrive with that final score, and Buddy Glass did not allow an Eagle to score.
Jordan Sczech, Derek Dallis, and Grayson Rohrbacher each pitched in with an assist for the Hawks.
Thorpe has now reached 5 goals for the season after his hat trick.
Canyon Lake is filled with youth and so with Senior Goalie Glass scoring a shut out, then this could bode well for a Hawk team that might have what it takes to reach a goal of playing meaningful games at the end of their district schedule.

The Lady Hawks Soccer (4-2) team went on the road for their win over Pleasanton, winning 5-1 as Canyon Lake continues to produce offensively.
This was CL’s third game of reaching 5 or more goals in this young season.
Now Canyon Lake will welcome Smithville to the Hawk’s Nest this next Tuesday as they will play a boys and girls doubleheader.
Both teams are playing good soccer so come out and support these student athletes.
Hawk’s Turnovers Spell Doom in Loss to Yoakum, 63-58
Saturday, January 24th, 2015CL Hawks Basketball Backs are against the wall after a loss to Yoakum on Friday night, 63-58.
Canyon Lake shot well from the floor but too many turnovers did not allow this Hawk team to have more shots in committing those costly miscues.

CL did have three players get to double digit scoring in the game as Junior Brandon Ward led the trio with 14 points while Seniors Skyler Tschoepe and Garrett Winters finished with 12 and 11 points.
A good overall game from Sophomore Rory Preiss as he missed just one shot, with an assist and 4 steals for Canyon Lake.
Preiss also led the Hawks with 8 rebounds and has accumulated 122 for the season only needing 29 more this season to crack the top ten rebounders for the Hawks.

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015Canyon Lake’s Lady Soccer team SSSSCOOOOORRRRREEEDDDD 8 goals in their win over La Vernia while shutting out the Bears in a non-district game Tuesday night at the Hawk Stadium.
Brandi Schimonsky broke the dam scoring first goal in La Vernia game.
The Hawks scored at will against this first year club and took no prisoners.
“We still have a long way to go,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We were firing on all cylinders, but what worries me is defense but we got our job done tonight.”
Senior Christy Fowler scored four of the goals in the win…in hockey a four goal game is called a Texas hat trick and being in Texas, Fowler was all smiles after this game.
“This was spectacular,” Fowler scored. “This year our team is very strong and we are playing as a team.”
Canyon Lake played their entire game playing offense and with the game getting out of hand scoring wise, CL had an opportunity of practicing on other parts of their game.
