Bracken Christian started their 2014 Spring practice this past Monday after saying

good-bye to the last class that played in a State Championship game.

“I was really impressed with the young guys,” Coach Fields started. “I will go to bed tonight presently surprised.”

BCS will be starting their second first year quarterback this season after Sam Hilgendorf put up his cleats after last season and Eli Achilles enjoyed a 4 year reign at the position before that.

Sophomore Brady Beene will take over this year and will look to continue a Warrior given of playing in the playoffs.

“Beene throws the ball very well,” Coach Fields added.

Bracken has only missed out on the postseason their first year which also happened to be their last season with a losing record.

A tradition of winning is a common occurrence with Bracken Christian.

The Hawks finished their first round of district games with just one loss to Canyon earlier this season, 10-5.

“We are a smaller school,” Head Coach Jacquelyn Scott stated. “We played scared our first time we faced Canyon and had way too many errors, but we were still within one or two runs before they stretched the lead.”

“We are working from now until next Thursday to get ready for Canyon during the next round,” Coach Scott continued. “We are playing good enough to beat them (Canyon).”

Mountain Valley took the winds out of SV after scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and a dominating pitching performance from Lauren Mentzer.

Brianna (The Wall) Young will start building a new ‘wall’ in Borger, Texas as she signed a scholarship for Frank Phillips College Plainsman in Softball.

Young did not play young as she immediately brought a replacement at catcher when Katy Payne graduated.

Canyon Lake will now be looking for their third catcher this next season.

Young was nicknamed The Wall by her teammates as she had a way of blocking the plate and looking at the carnage as she trotted back to the dugout after recording an out.

“I’m excited,” Young started when asked about signing on the dotted line. “I just want to work and play hard to find anyway to play next year.”

Christian Dittman Jumping into Canyon Lake Records

The ReSporter would now like to show off the best ever in Track & Field.

This is one of the sports that has had more success through the years. Canyon Lake finished second to Fredericksburg a couple of years and even when they might not have won district, the Hawks could out point most of their district foes at the State Meet.

Case in point was last season when Marisa Ellis won State in the High Jump.

Take a look with their performance mentioned first and then the year that athlete had that time or distance. Also if you see an athlete with Bold Green then you have an opportunity to see them again since they have more years to climb the charts.

Thursday, April 24th, 2014

This is The ReSporter’s last Coaches Corner for Softball as we find out about the season that just finished.

Head Softball Coach John Gallagher

Head Softball Coach John Gallagher

The ReSporter: What are some areas that you will wanting these girls to work on as we wait for their opening next season?

Coach Gallagher: “I want each player to work on the basics. Throwing properly, accurately with confidence, along with their hitting/bunting. The speed and agility workouts. I would also hope that we have many girls playing in the summer. This is huge when you can play softball for six months or more compared to three during the school year.”

The ReSporter: How do you assess this past year in comparing Regular Season vs. District Season?

Amber Ramsey will be taking her talents to Our Lady of the Lake University to play Volleyball as she signed on the dotted line Wednesday afternoon in the Hawk Gym.

This was a first on many fronts for Canyon Lake as this was the first signing in the afternoon, but more impressive, was Head Coach Mark Lee for OLLU was in attendance for this occasion.

Two things that has not happened until this day, showing how important a student and player Ramsey was and will become.

Ramsey has been around for what seems to be ages as she showcased her skills as a Freshman through her Senior year for the Hawks.

Her height allowed her to show off her play at the net for her career and now that talent will be on display in San Antonio next year.
