 Hawks 03 Wimberley 40 Boerne 35 Bandera 13

Canyon Lake continues their melt down when meeting Wimberley. Whatever the reason, CL

CL's Defense answering the call against Bandera

will have errors in this game along with a team that can exploit a Hawk team repeatedly each season.

This week, Canyon Lake has an early date with Boerne on Thursday with both teams needing a win to enhance their chances of being one of those three teams to make the playoffs.

A loss and then, just like last year, the team that loses will need a lot of help from other teams to have a chance of going on with their season.

It is safe to say that Fredericksburg and Bandera will have another year at the bottom of this district, leaving three playoff spots for four teams.

BCS gets Water Insurance in Win over CASA, 53-0

Saturday, October 27th, 2012

Bracken Christian got insurance for water at their CASA that helped them cruise to a 53-0 win in San Antonio last Friday night.

Once again, BCS scored on every possession during this water logged football field.

The Warriors have now scored on 17 consecutive drives in their last three games. The last drive BCS had that did not score was an interception in the fourth quarter of the Gustine game.

Actually, Bracken did not score with over two minutes left in this game Friday night because the Warriors took a knee to run out the clock.

BCS had no drive that took over four plays. Two drives that took four plays, two drives taking three plays, one drive with two plays, and three one play drives.

On those three one play drives, BCS had 128 yards or over half of their total number of yards for this game.

Bracken also played their first game without trying for the ‘Bonus’ point. “I would still like to have a 75% success rate with the point after,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said.

Hawks Get Caged by Texans, 40-3

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Wide Receiver Doug Hubnik on his 22 yard reception to the 5 yard line

Canyon Lake lost the third round of their five round heavy weight bout against Wimberley last Friday at Wimberley Stadium, 40-3.

The Hawks seem to disappear every time a battle with their neighbors just north of CL’s campus have their yearly game.

“We did not match Wimberley’s intensity,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “They have played in a lot of big games and you can see that we just aren’t there.”

Five games and now five losses to the Texans in what seemed to be that same State Championship defense seen last year was in full array on this blustery evening.

Wimberley started this night with a 35 yard drive and were forced to punt after this 10 play drive.

Remember what has been talked about for Canyon Lake to compete with the Texans? Turnovers and Penalties.

Canyon Lake did not have a penalty assessed until the second half, however the same could not be said about the turnover.

First play was a muffed snap for Canyon Lake and a negative 12 yards for a safety.

Mountain Valley Splits 8th A and B Squad with Texans

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Mountain Valley 8th Grade A and B team split with Wimberley last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.

In the ‘A’ Game, MV started the game with an impressive three play 55 yard drive to tie the score with five minutes left in the second quarter.

Spit End Tyler Shipman had a juggling catch over the middle going for 43 yards for the score. Shipman juggled the ball for ten yards before his clutch of the ball had a positive result.

“It went up in the air and I did not see it and then it popped up again and then I caught it,” Shipman retold the story. “Felt really good and I was tired.”

Anthony Rodriguez also let his presence known against Wimberley.

Rodriguez was responsible for tackle behind by five yards causing a fumble for the Texan runner.

CLJV win second half, 7-0; Lose Game to Texans, 18-7

Friday, October 26th, 2012

Canyon Lake Junior Varsity could not rebound in their loss to Wimberley last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium, losing 18-7.

The Hawks offense was AWOL in this loss as the halftime stats would bare out. CL had more penalty yards than offensive yards.

“Staying power is what we are trying to show them and that will build character,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “You don’t measure a man when you are ahead, but when you find yourself in trouble.”

Quarterback Skylar Tschoepe had the Hawks first first down well into the second quarter and that would be the extent of that excitement.

Canyon Lake had 13 offensive plays total in that half while Wimberley almost matched that with their first drive of the game with 12 plays.

Wimberley also had multiple penalties and sometimes decided to have more than one on any given play.

The Texans had 104 yards in penalties while your CL Hawks finished with 116 total offensive yards.

Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

The ReSporter: Hey Coach let us know how Bracken Football is

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

doing this week.

Coach Fields: “We have had a low key week of practice, CASA does have 18 kids out this year, but we want to try and end this game by half time.”

The ReSporter: What is your focus?

Coach Fields: “Still adjusting our defense, right now we have everyone going full speed and are more healthy than we have been all year.”

The ReSporter: Your achilles heel this year seems to be in your Bonus kick for Special Teams, what are you doing in this part of your game?

Coach Fields: “We have quit trying to kick for our extra point. Now we are going for one point after every touchdown. Realistically we would like to be successful on 75% of those tries.”

The ReSporter: How should that affect your games?

CL it is finally time to face up to The Bully (Wimberley).

Special Time for Special Team

Wimberley week will always be a little different than other schools for Canyon Lake.

Why? Distance, The ReSporter would only travel an extra five miles in going to Wimberley high school versus Hawk Country.

Wimberley has also taken Canyon Lake’s lunch money the past four years, leaving the Hawks without anything to eat for lunch. (They are our bully…)

Could this be the year for Canyon Lake to kick sand into the Texans face? Possibly, now all CL needs to find out is if Wimberley will come back and does CL have the fortitude to stand up to Wimberley’s advances and land some punches.

“Wimberley is the third game of our five round heavy weight fight,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “The stakes get higher with each game.”

Well, when schedules were drawn up for this two year alignment, District 27-3A moved games around and so this year it so happens to be a couple of 2-0 teams playing.

Not odd for Wimberley to be undefeated in district, but this will be just the first time CL has had a 2-0 district record when facing the Texans. The Hawks have faced Wimberley four out of five years with an unblemished mark going into a game with our ‘Devil’s Backbone’ counterpart.

The ReSporter could only find names of three players for CASA and nothing else about games played or Stats for those games.

After this week’s game you will still know nothing about any players and only have one game of Stats for this team.

Take the total score of the four games played and you would have a good indication of what this outcome will be.
