CL Hawks JV will go into their opening season battle in good spirits after taking care of Elgin JV for their final scrimmage before a road trip to Wimberley.
Canyon Lake’s Freshman scrimmage with Elgin was night and day different from their previous Cuero audition to this season.
Canyon Lake had their dress rehearsal against Elgin and will now prepare for the 3rd Ranked Wimberley Texans this coming Friday, it will be a home game.
Canyon Lake played Cuero in their first scrimmage last week and will go to work this week for a better outing when they travel to Elgin for a 5pm start time with the Sub-Varsity. CL’s Varsity will follow those those scrimmages around 7pm.
Of course the headline is not true but does bring up a point on how well last year’s team played going into that final quarter. A three period football game last season would have had CL going deep into the post-season which did have a wild campaign considering the ‘Covid’ season forced many different scenarios than any year since the Hawks started 13 years ago.
Canyon Lake had a hit or miss offensive season last year. There were games that had the slot-t plowing through defenses scoring 61 and 48 points against La Grange and La Vernia and then reaching just 14 points against Austin LBJ. Three other battles was low in points scored finishing in the 20s playing Wimberley, Fredericksburg, and Jourdanton.
Eric Teutsch will continue his football dream as he signed his letter of intent for NE Georgia Prep Academy last week.
Canyon Lake had one of the most eccentric seasons last year from losing coin flips to Covid cancellations and through those road blocks being thrown all over the roads, the Hawks managed to have a successful season within an eye-lash of getting to the 3rd round in the post-season..
