                                     Hawk Swim Team Makes Waves at Regions Meet

Hawk Swimmers made waves on Canyon Lake after best finish in Canyon Lake history with 8th Place competing against 23 schools in Region IV.

Alex Borremans had a 3rd place finish in the 100 Free Style race with another Hawk Record of 48.66 time.

“Our motto this weekend was “have fun – swim, don’t think,” Head Coach Kim Moses said. “At this level, swimming is all mental – there’s no more preparing physically – I think the kids did a great job of having fun which led to personal bests.”

Borremans certainly was on during his time in the water as he had a 5th place finish in his 50 Free Style event.

CL Lady Hawks Lose to Freddie, 70-53

The Lady Hawks will have just one more game in Bandera after another hard fought loss to Fredericksburg last Friday, 70-53.

With a young team, many times victories come in different sizes. The Hawks continue to show improvement during their second go around in District 28-4A play.

CL found themselves down just 4 points after the first quarter and finishing with 53 points for the game was a good sign as Canyon Lake will now start to concentrate on next season with plenty of girls ready to prepare for better results.

CL Hawks Fall Off Truck in Loss to the Billies, 64-49

Canyon Lake fell off the truck in the 3rd quarter in their loss to Fredericksburg on Friday night at the Hawk Nest, 64-49.

The Hawks carved out a 27-25 advantage going into the halftime locker room after Sophomore Parker Mott had a steal underneath CL’s basket on an inbound pass and scoring at the horn for the lead.

That was the type of plays needed and for those first two quarters the Hawks had held their own in a battle with the top two teams in District 28-4A.

CL Hawks Boy’s Soccer Share Wealth in Win over SM Academy, 8-0

The Hawks Boys Soccer team continues to share the wealth and show some strong play for their games leading up to district as CL ran away from San Marcos Academy, 8-0.

“One thing I have stressed to the boys this year is that in life as in soccer, if you want something you have to earn it,” Head Coach Warren Graham said. “We have to go out every night and earn the other team’s respect. We have to earn the right to play past Spring Break and so far the boys are doing just that.”

Lady Hawks Improve but Still Lose to Hondo Owls, 47-43

Canyon Lake had another close loss as this year is coming to a close to the Hondo Owls, 47-43.

“We played hard and I am pleased with our effort,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “I told the girls that they make me proud to be a part of Canyon Lake….game wise, we just were not able to convert enough on the offensive end.”

The Hawks did have another good game in holding Hondo to 47 points which gave CL a good chance for a comeback in the 4th quarter.

Hondo had been held to this low in scoring points 5 games this season and did bring the Owls to 15 points lower than their previous outing in an earlier have this year.

CL Hawks Beat Hondo, 55-45

Canyon Lake (15-12) wins their first road game since the Christmas Break opening a nice, 55-45 present at Hondo this past Tuesday.

“I thought we did good as we grinded out a tough win against a desperate team,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman assessed. “Defensively we really locked in and played well.”

CL held the Owl’s leading scorer to pedestrian numbers helping the Hawks to keep a comfortable lead.

“Our focus was stopping their point guard,” Coach Chapman said. “He averages about 15 points a game, and we held him to 5 point and that came at late in the game.”

Hawk Freshman on Short-End in Loss with Boerne, 44-36

Canyon Lake’s Freshman team started with a spark but in those two middle quarters that spark was doused with some shaky shooting and 12 turnovers giving Boerne all they needed to survive, 44-36.

The Hawks finished with 3 players getting to double figures but the other players were as cold as ice totaling 4 points as reinforcements did not get back in time to save this Hawk Team.

Boy’s Soccer Add another Win (8-3), over Floresville, 4-0

The Boy’s Soccer Team won their 8th game last Friday matching their win total from last season with a, 4-0 victory over Floresville.

Another game with an abundance of players getting into the act with goals and assists.

At this same time last season, Canyon Lake, had a 4-4 record compared to a sparkling 8-3 count this year.

“I feel we are more team-oriented this year,” Head Coach Warren Graham commented. “We are moving the ball well and playing great defense….the boys are unselfish and that was very evident tonight.”

Hawk Swim Team Qualifies 12 for Regionals

Cassidy Felps ready for personal bests at District.

Canyon Lake’s Swimming Team had their best showing since their inception as they will be sending 12 athletes to the Region Meet next week in Rosenberg on Thursday.

“Saying that we had an Extremely Successful District Meet on Friday would be a huge understatement,” Head Swimming Coach Kim Moses divided the Red Sea. “We are so proud of every swim team member and look forward to our next steps.”

The Boy’s team had a 4th place finish while the ladies finished in the 9th spot as the team standing was an impressive 6th place at the meet.

A Swimming team will have to compete with larger schools on many occasions since not every school will have a swim team.

CLJV Get Rabbit Before a Greyhound in Win, 44-36

Hawk Boy’s JV got their 11th straight win after catching the *rabbit and game, 44-36 over Boerne JV.

CLJV is now 4-0 in District 28-4A play and will start the 2nd round next week when they travel to Hondo.

The Hawks beat the Greyhounds to the rabbit as Canyon Lake had to work out of a 22-17 deficit in starting the 2nd half.

This game was won in the 3rd quarter when the Hawks raced out with a, 19-5 advantage. Offense and Defense was on a grand scale as everything in this 3rd quarter went like clock work.

Starters and the bench were on the same page as foul trouble did not deter the resolve this Hawk team that has one goal and that is finishing this year with a 15 game winning streak.

During that second half blitz, Zach Taliaferro had a nifty no-look perfect pass to Anthony Zavala for a high octane points that put the crowd in hyper speed.
