The SAISD tourney started with a top 5 ranked El Paso Burges team that beat CL, 61-37 on Thursday.

Head Coach Zach Burleson was optimistic after the 4 game experience, “If we play like we are capable, then we can play with anybody.”

The games showed some inconsistencies, but in playing larger classification schools you will certainly be helped as this season progresses.

“We got after them which gave us a lot of second chance opportunities,” Head JV Coach Brian Hooper said. “We have a lot of players and depth.”

The Hawks JV squad held the Buffaloes less than 10 points for each quarter as their lead grew with pressure and a good all around game.

With 16 steals, CLJV, opened up their offense by a great defense as Fox Tech could never find the room to have offensive power.

Winning ways continue for this year’s JV-1 squad as they finished off the Wimberley Texans in grand fashion, 42-36.

That score makes this game seem much closer than it actually was as the Hawks controlled this contest from the opening tip to that final horn.

Caroline Kullberg led all scorers with 18 points which was just off being half of the teams points.

The Hawk pressure had the Texans’ with a multitude of turnovers which is saying something given that Canyon Lake was also a frequent visitor to the turnover whistle with 31 for the game.

CL had foul trouble throughout the game which was a contributing factor in how this game finished with a 6 point win as Wimberley had the lead once, 3-2 at the 6 minute mark in that first quarter.

That was the year your Hawks qualified for the playoffs in their second year of competition. That win was needed to get their ticket punched for those fun games.

“I am really pleased with our effort as Wimberley forced us out of our comfort zone,” Head Coach Zach Burleson surmised. “We had so many opportunities in that 4th Quarter to knock them down and increase our lead but this game showed we took a step in the right direction.”

That direction is becoming a straighter Backbone for this edition of Canyon Lake Lady Hawks.

Those three players combined for 28 points which would have been enough points for this victory.
