A running clock had a better chance of gaining yards on this Hawk defense than this Viking’s offense could muster.

MV was in top form for every facet of this contest, from Special Teams to Offense to Defense, it was all Hawks.

The Vikings average 0.13 yards per carry which would take Lago Vista 76.9230769230769 plays to garner a first down base on that average.

Defensive End Jacob Thomas had one play that he could have taken a handoff, as he was in Lago Vista’s backfield so fast.

“We just went down and dominated them,” Thomas said. “Coaches told us to stay low and we did what they asked.”

Scoring drives were even more impressive. Mountain Valley’s offense had the ball six times and scored on those drives in 10 plays total.

A hoarse Head Coach Megan Helmey started, “My girls have been working on being mentally tough and you saw how well they carried that out….I have no complaints, Landry Hollums was going all over the place and really stepped up in that last set.”

“We were executing the ball and we knew that Wimberley was going to get the ball over with a game changer with a tip or what they had been doing,” Coach Helmey commented on what was happening in her conversation with the girls during their final time-out. “I am proud of the girls and how they handled it.

The crowd was totally into this game as both schools had a lot of support.

“I came from a 5A school and I had never seen a crowd like that,” Sophomore Kaylie Duke said. “This was awesome….I knew that all of the sports are so important for Canyon Lake and this was so important for our school and our Volleyball team came together.”

Freshman Faith Hasness had a six point serve which started with a 16-17 score in favor of Wimberley to a 22-17 advantage for the Hawks.

This match was over after the first serve as Wimberley was leaving no question to who the #1 team in District 26-4A would be after this evening’s game.

A resounding three game sweep where the first two pivotal games CL was only able to score 14 and 13 points.

Wimberley did not allow Canyon Lake two points on serve but one time and that was way after this match had been decided in the third game while the Texans were holding a 22-14 edge.

Discombobulated would be a word to describe this Hawk team as they continued to slip on this night when the Hawk Gym was full of fans from both towns.

MV 8th ‘A’ Hawks Groundhog Lampasas, 32-6

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014

Lampasas 8th A squad thought that they would just fumble instead of punting in their game with Mountain Valley, as the Hawks finished off this Badger team, 32-6 last Thursday night.

Mountain Valley, still feeling the sting from a loss to Wimberley in their previous outing, would take no prisoners as they marched 62 yards on 7 plays when Jacob Ruff finished the first drive from three yards out.

“We weren’t quite ready from our conditioning (from last week’s Texans game),” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek said. “But we did have a better week of practice.”

“Thinking about that loss last week fueled our win today,” Jacob Ruff would surmise.

The Badgers first two drives were stopped by losing the ball via the fumble. Starting on their 24 yard line, the Badgers, marched off 24 yards with the help of a face mask penalty and then fumbled after a 10 yard gain that would have given Lampasas the ball on their 38 yard line with a new set of downs.

with a chance of winning.

“We made plenty of mistakes,” Head Coach Charley Drum said. “From our special teams…punts…fumbles…and we still should of won that game with all those mistakes.”

CL will have to have a quick turn around as days go fast and another game is right around the corner, “You hate losing….but we will take something from this,” Coach Drum said with resolve.

District 14-4A-I will begin in three weeks and learning from these type of outings is paramount in how this season plays out.
