The Hawks got back on the winning track and scurried out for an eight run lead before settling in and beating Comfort, 12-5 last Friday night on the road.

After taking a tough loss to Blanco, Canyon Lake did not take long to forge into a lead that would not be threatened in winning by a seven run margin.

Two things was noticeable that did not happen in Blanco.

Seguin.

Seguin is not a soccer power but by being in the same district with Canyon Lake a win on the road gives the Hawks a chance of getting into the playoffs if they can take care of business with Wimberley this season.

Christie Fowler had her way with the Matadors with four goals. Fowler was joined with Chloe, Gomez, and Panek who each scored one goal a piece.

Other good points in this win, “Tiffany Laurent had several first half saves and stopped a penalty kick,” Head Coach Erich Robinson said. “Jillian Schley was in her first district appearance and ended the second half with no scores on goal.”

lose to Blanco, 14-11.

The Hawks had their top three batters in the line-up score eight runs but that just was not good enough to warrant a win.

Lizzy Henderson came back from a hand injury from last weekends tournament to help in some late rallies with two hits and rbi’s which was an encouraging sign.

Hawks JV lose Two to Marble Falls, 14-2 & 4-2

What a difference a game makes, as Canyon Lake improved their game by reducing Marble Falls JV

baseball team to 10 runs less for the second game of a doubleheader opening the Hawks Baseball season Monday night in the Falls.

That first game was over quick when the Mustangs scored in every inning in that first contest.

Problem? The Hawk pitching staff could not find the strike zone.

That resulted in way more base runners for Marble Falls and by adding an error here or there compounded the pounding, 14-2.

Case in point. That first inning had four strikes thrown by CL to six Mustang players and those four strikes resulted in three outs.

to a 19-5 win over Luling Eagles in their final game in the Navarro Tournament on Saturday.

Young had a double and home run in a 12 run first inning to give the Hawks a cushion that helped this young ball club to a 4-2 record opening their season.

“Overall, we improved over our Thursday games,” Head Coach John Gallagher started. “The players played hard and never quit…We will use these games with some teaching in the field.”

Every Hawk had a hit in this game as Canyon Lake batted around the order twice in those three innings before this game was called on a time limit.

CL starts the season with 5 home runs in their first six games and that is more dingers than Canyon Lake has had in their history.

Ahrens was one of the players with two home runs to start this season.

“I am very pleased with how we played,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We did well offensively and hit the ball well and bunted well.”

The Hawks are so young that even their one of two seniors is Brianna YOUNG.

Freshman and Sophomores ‘make up’ many new faces, in fact, they might be so young that they don’t wear ‘make up’.

CL Boy’s Basketball Lose Final Game to Bandera, 67-48

Canyon Lake ends season on a losing note as the Hawks said good-bye to four Seniors who played their last game.

Bandera finished off the Hawks, 67-48, as CL once again started the game in a whole as the Bulldogs finished that first quarter in the lead, 18-7.

Isaac Mendez did have one of his best games of the season on this night as he was the only Hawk in double figure scoring finishing with 12 points and also chipped in with 9 rebounds which also led the Canyon Lake effort.

Canyon Lake did finish the season as the all time leading Hawk team with steals, rebounds, and blocks per game.

Those numbers still did not translate into victories as CL finished the season without a district win.

Conversely Canyon Lake also finished this season as the worst team for defense, assists, and turnovers was only 3 away from leading in that category (2009 team had 3 more turnovers).

The Hawk Seniors did make their presence known for their last game: Andrew Riali, Tyler Clark, Isaac Mendez, Javier Mendez, and Luke Curry.

Player Quotes:
On what you think about last game and what wisdom for younger players:
Senior Isaac Mendez: “This went by quick….you can’t take days off and I hope for a different season than what we did.”
Senior Javier Mendez: “The season ending kind of stinks….the players got to understand the harder you work, the better you get.”
Senior Andrew Riali: “It is hard to say good-bye….this year all I wanted to do is concentrate on basketball. The players have to practice three times harder and work on what you are worse at doing. Work over the
Summer as much as you can on dribbling skills, finishing, and free throws.”
Senior Luke Curry: “We were building blocks for future teams.”
Junior Garrett Winters: “Ultimately, I would like to win some basketball games next year. We need to reduce our turnovers and just take care of the ball.”

The ReSporter will have final stats for the year and all-time stats tomorrow.
