Hawk’s Locked in Ballroom Closet in Loss to Navarro, 62-0

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Ballroom dancing takes lots of room and the Panthers had no problem on the dance floor after locking Canyon Lake in a broom closet.

The game got ugly fast when Navarro found the Hawk’s girl friend to boot and did some break dancing with the Hawk’s date.

Two plays and a fumble for the Hawks and one play and a score for Navarro and with 11:02 left in the first quarter, the Panthers had already scored more points than CL, in what proved to be their second worse loss, trailing their very first game ever.

Blanco has those honors when the Hawks lost 63-0 on that night in 2008.

Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ Team has tough Loss to Navarro, 28-22

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ team started their engines too late in a loss to Navarro last Thursday night, 28-22.

The first half of this game was a clinic as Navarro scored on two of their three possessions and a defense that allowed MV no yardage for being stuck in the sand.

Mountain Valley only had 11 plays and accumulated 30 yards for a anemic 2.7 yards per play.

Then the Hawks decided to get after these Panthers when they took the kick-off and ran like a panther over the panthers.

Mountain Valley climbed a mountain from the Valley and scored a big win over Navarro, 36-16 last Thursday at Hawk Field.

This game did not start well for MV as the Panthers took a quick three play drive 55 yards, putting Mountain Valley in a valley to start this affair.

Mountain Valley however would answer on their ensuing drive when Rolando Maronge capped a 65 yard drive from 26 yards out converting a fourth down with a touchdown.

The Hawks then proceded to get two defensive stops that was sandwiched with a fumbled punt giving Navarro a continuation of their drive.

Jesse Sarmiento helped even that turnover battle intercepting Navarro’s first pass of the game giving the Hawks possession and a chance to right the ship.

A methodical 8 play drive that still left too much time on the clock after Parker Reno converted a quarterback sneak.

Hawk Girl’s Basketball starts in Johnson City with a win

Canyon Lake started off their season with a win over a depleted Johnson City squad, 76-25.

Yes, JC had some Varsity girls prepping themselves for a State Cross Country Meet and that left this team without many of it’s stalwarts.

The irony might be that CL’s team is so young that this might have been classified as a Junior Varsity game instead.

The Hawks shot 46% from the field while forcing more steals than turnovers committed.

Canyon Lake had four players in double digit scoring led by Freshman Mia Riali with 14 points.

Warriors Were Long WINded Over San Marcos Home School, 57-12

Sunday, November 3rd, 2013

Bracken Christian was long winded in their game with San Marcos Home School as the Warrior’s scoring plays spanned many yards in this hard fought contest at Bracken Field.

San Marcos Home School (SMHS) had little known facts to help prepare for, “The only scouting we had on this game was a phone call,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said.

We may have taken this team lightly,” Coach Fields said matter of fact. “It was very misleading that they were 0-8. This was the first time we had an emotional let down after the OLH game.”

Coach Fields was responding that SMHS had not faced one team with a losing record this season.

SMHS threw the first punch as this Home School team held the Warriors on their first possession and then drove 48 yards on 8 plays for the first score.

Hawks have a Microcosm Moment in Win over Boerne, 37-28

There was a test-tube experiment for Canyon Lake as the crowd at Hawk Stadium was seeing a ‘microcosm’ of their season in this one game.

You remember how this year started with six losses and each part of their game suffered.

Offense was clinking to start the season, then it was the defense turn as they were giving a bus load of points and how about those games where the special teams were not that special.

This game had it all as Canyon Lake started by allowing the Greyhounds to return a kick-off to the Hawks 32 yard line….then the defense was defenseless while playing Ole defense as Boerne waltzed down the field in just 5 plays for a score.

Mountain Valley Hawks 7th A Team Falls Short in Loss to Boerne, 12-8

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Mountain Valley 7th A team had a hard time getting traction in loss to Boerne, 12-8.

This was the Hawks first loss this season and will now have to regroup has they prepare for Navarro in the season final next week.

Boerne was in the MV’s huddle for several plays as the Greayhound defensive line was in the Hawks backfield on several plays causing little or no gain.

Tristan Chacon had an excellent game defensively and also was able to work a 8 yard average per rush attempt.

The defense did hold Boerne below the century mark, but that consolation prize will not ease or change the final score.

Hawks 7th B Squad Had More than Boerne could Handle in, 28-12 Win

Mountain Valley Hawks 7th Grade ‘B’ Squad had way more than the Greyhounds could handle in a

redemption game win, 28-12 last Thursday at Hawk stadium.

In their first game, MV suffered their first loss of the year in Boerne but after the few first plays, fans knew that this game might have a different result.

Mountain Valley’s offensive stats would of fit onto a 6-Man football field on this day as each play run averaged over 12 yards. In the game earlier this year, the fumble was the kryptonite for the Hawks but in this game, Mountain Valley still had three fumbles but even that Kryptonite was not lethal for the superhuman efforts and resolve to redeem themselves from that loss.

MV’s first drive had running back Devon Morehead with two runs of 30 and 31 yards, the last run paving a path to the end zone the Hawks would enjoy for the rest of this night. Morehead finished with 109 yards on just 8 carries.

Morehead’s first run was unique in how the defender just ran with Devon but could not take him down…it looked like a new dance routine.

“I felt like hew was running with me,” Morehead recounted. “Towards the end of my run I was just trying at least gain as many yards as I could. The offensive line stepped up for sure today.”

Freshman have The ReSporters vote, as this team is out manned each week yet they have come together to give opponents a run for their hard fought win.

“Those two turnovers deep on their side of the field hurt us,” Head Freshman Coach John Barthels said. “We moved the ball all night.”

This game actually had an extra 0:04 seconds added to the game clock after the buzzard sounded ending the first half, an erroneous call on a play allowed Boerne an extra play that was scored with no time left on the clock.

The play in question was a mistake by the head ref in running the clock and then giving the Greyhounds a phantom 4 more seconds. Then that extra play had Boerne having their snap before the play had been blown back into action.

BCS is on Fire with Win over OLH, 60-44

Sunday, October 27th, 2013

Bracken Christian Warriors avoided a trap game in their contest with Kerrville OLH pulling out a win, 60-44.

“This was a good win,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “This will assure us of a second place finish in District and a possible first round playoff with Sugarland Logos Prep.

Noah Boriack scored six times and rushed for 316 yards in the win as this Warrior also decided to intercept two passes for the icing on the cake.

“This game was Boriack’s best game at Bracken,” Coach Fields continued. “Of course he had a break out game running but his two interceptions was also a testament of his good game. At halftime I thought this game would have over 80 points scored in it.”
