unfortunately the scenario played out like many people thought when Wimberley and Navarro won their games sending the Hawks into a longer than expected off season.

The Hawks did not let that scenario keep them from finishing on a winning note, as Canyon Lake put the collar on the Bulldogs, 55-33 at Bandera Stadium last Friday night.

CLHS scored the first touchdown of the second half and put this game out of reach for Bandera.

The season was memorable for other reasons besides not making the playoffs, this campaign allowed the fans and parents to see a team bond together through hard work in crafting another brick on the Canyon Lake house for future seasons.

Bracken Earns Respect, Pummel OLH, 79-34

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

Bracken Christian Warriors have finished their regular season undefeated for two years in a row, as Bracken ran all over Kerrville OLH Hawks, 79-34 at Warrior stadium last Friday night.

The 79 points was impressive, but a little known fact about Bracken is how dominating the defense can be. If you don’t believe that is true, then go ask a sore Hawk in Kerrville what they think.

OLH Hawks came into the game scoring over 67 points per contest while the Warriors held Kerrville to half that average in this game for the District title.

Senior Grady Achilles rushed for 335 yards while carrying the rock 15 times. Adding up the last four games before this finale had Achilles with 17 rushes total.

In fact, the last seven games Grady Achilles has amassed 31 carries helping Bracken cake walk through the middle part of the season.

Semi Final Loss for BCS can’t Dampen Season

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Bracken Christian (20-6) lost to Huntsville Alpha Omega, 14-25, 25-20, 20-25, and 19-25, Friday at Providence High School in downtown San Antonio in the Semi Final State Playoffs.

The first game was all Lions after jumping out to a lead Bracken could not match.

“Making errors that we don’t typically make,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “We could not do anything effectively.”

Alpha Omega had three rallies of five points as the Lions took advantage of the same offensive strategy that Bracken had been doing to their opponents during their 12 game winning streak.

The serve had been a catalyst for BCS, yet it was the Lions that were serving notice it might be a long game for the Warriors.

CLJV Lose Season Finale, 41-12 to Bandera

Friday, November 4th, 2011

The Canyon Lake JV team will be glad the last game was played…based on how many players were walking around on crutches on the sidelines and with other circumstances has made the team thin in numbers.

Hence, the 41-12 drubbing at the hands of a Bulldog from Bandera.

The game started on a bright note as Canyon Lake quickly moved the ball for 69 yards on just five plays, highlighted by a 47 yard run from running back Karl Weidner.

Most of the highlights ended with that run as the Bulldogs unleashed a Stouffet with runs and punt returns, taking the wind out of the sails for CL.

The Hawks did answer a touchdown on their first possession of the second half after Bandera had struck for the first score of the half.

BCS breaks Records, Switching to CDs, Beat Flames, 64-8

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Bracken Christian doused the Flames from Marble Falls, 64-8 in their eighth mercy game in a row for this season…a record.

The offense is lethal, but the defense could be better.

The only problem in making that projection, is the defense gets to play more than the offense.

Bracken has had only 10 drives since the first game against Austin Hill Country that resulted in more than four plays before a score.

This Warriors team has so many weapons to unleash when the playoffs start in a couple of weeks. Right now, if the runner gets tackled, then the play was a failure.

Competition will be ramped up another notch this week as Bracken will try to find out if the light bill has been paid for the lights for the field.

BCS Volleyball Aces are Wild, next stop Final Four

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

The Bracken Christian Warriors won an epic battle against San Antonio Lutheran in a five game set, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 24-26, and 15-7.

Head Coach Shaunna Teuton mentioned after the win on Tuesday that if Briana Martinez was able to suit up, then she was going to play and definitely serve.

“We knew what we had to do going into the fifth game,” Coach Teuton said. “I asked them (team) whoever wanted most….Bre (Martinez) was the momentum turner.”

Miss Martinez had spent some time during the week in the hospital.

“I did not have very much energy,” Martinez sighed. “Adrenaline kicked in and I knew I needed to get in a groove.”

The Coach for Lutheran tried to freeze Martinez twice during the eight point rally.

“I just have to think about how to do my form in my head,” Martinez served an ace. “It is all a mental game.”

CL Celebrates Explosive Senior Night, 35-7 over Billies

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Canyon Lake Hawks continued their dominance over the Billies winning their third game in a row on Senior Night at Hawk stadium, 35-7.

The Hawks have three wins over a total of one team in the short history…..Fredericksburg!!

After a first year loss by 51 points, the Hawks have now pummeled the Billies for the third time and improved their record to 7-2, which is also a record for the most wins in a season.

It took a while for CL to not have self inflicted wounds, as the first quarter started to look like the last two games where turnovers were the norm.

A fumble on the first drive and then an interception with the second drive stopped a possible two scores and leaving the Billies squarely within smelling distance.

Both turnovers were inside the Red Zone where the Hawks had suffered in their earlier losses.

Senior Quinn Pike stepped up finishing a three play 58 yard drive for the first CL score. The 44 yards pass and run was a thing of beauty as the Billie defender was left holding nothing but air. (more…)

CL Freshman Blown Away, 26-20

Friday, October 28th, 2011

The Hawks Freshman were blown away literally as the winds from the North played havoc for both teams last Thursday night at Hawk Stadium.

Canyon Lake took advantage of the wind first as the Fredericksburg center sent the ball past the quarterback and what started with the ball on the 34 yard line the Hawks recovered the ball on the eight and ready for the short drive.

The play set the Billies back 26 yards. Two Hayden Dubois runs later CL had their 6-0 lead.

“We came ready to play we just had too many mistakes,” Head Coach Brian Owens said. “We weren’t handling the middle of the line and we had to make the most of it.”

“Give it up for the offensive line, but they were better to the bitter end,” Coach Owens continued. “This team is really special…they play together more than any freshman team I have had.”

The good news for the Billies, if you don’t pass much, then you might be able to minimize the wind by running the ball.

The Bracken Warriors Girls Cross Country team dominated the State meet

Cross Country Coach Jack Roettinger

Cross Country Coach Jack Roettinger

held in Waco last weekend.

“We had a good pre State season,” Cross Country Coach Jack Roettinger said. “With meets in Hondo, Junction, Comfort, UTSA, and Hope gave us our stepping stones to State.”

“The girls matured through out and UTSA was the meet when they knew they could compete,” Coach Roettinger continued. “They finished fourth out of 13 teams.”

The Warriors finished with a 23 point lead with no Seniors on the squad.

Bracken looks like they might be able to pitch a permanent tent at the Waco course for the next several years.

“The girls have really good training and competitive practices,” Coach Roettinger strolled. “They are real dedicated and have a lot of perseverance.”

The Area round of playoffs was a slow starting game for the Bracken Warriors as they had to come back to win the first game and then cruised to a three game sweep of Dalllas Lakehill Warriors at the Bracken gym on Tuesday night.

“Working out our nerves for the first playoff game…I don’t like the bye,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton stated. “We did play some warm up games, but the playoffs are different and we needed to have one under our belt.”

BCS could not get any rallies as the team seemed to be playing in quick sand for much of the first game.

“We were just nervous on the first game,” Killer Amanda Morgan said. “We just played the first game as a warm up game and did not take it seriously.”

On the solution, Morgan reiterated, “We will warm up harder for the next game.”
