BCS Wins Big over Waldorf, 25-12, 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-10

Friday, September 30th, 2011

It was an epic battle, as the Bracken Christian Volleyball team held off Waldorf in a five game set on Friday night.

The win was important, since the Waldorf team was undefeated in district play.

Now BCS finds themselves with the same number of losses and a chance to forge into a tie with a victory Saturday against Kerrville OLH.

OLH was the only loss for the Warriors through the first round of district play.

BCS started the set on fire as they lapped the Waldorf team. With the score 11-9, Becky Korkosz and Briana Martinez served the team with a 12 point rally and winning the game by 13 points, 25-12.

Every time during the game, Korkosz was able to send her serve exactly where Coach Shaunna Teuton was instructing.

Ehren Jacobson Rams through the Wildcats

Ehren Jacobson Rams through the Wildcats

Bracken Christian (BCS) Warriors controlled the New Braunfels Christian (NBC) Wildcats on both sides of the line winning on Saturday night, 55-0.

Taking the initials of both schools would give you a whole different battle: BCS (Bowl Championship Series) vs. NBC (National Broadcasting Channel).

Based on that criteria, the BCS entity will not be telecasted by NBC anytime in the near future.

The Hawks scored in ways that had not yet been associated with a win or loss in the history of the program. On the 38th game, CLHS learned that the scoreboard would record interceptions and kick-offs that are run back for touchdowns.

Those two scores helped give Canyon Lake the separation they needed to subdue the Luling Eagles.

The records were plentiful in a game that saw the two teams combine for the most aggregate points scored with 84 in this battle…the previous record? 2008 in a loss to Fredericksburg, 65-14 for 79 points.

Canyon Lake would be a wild ride at the rodeo this season. The Hawks won another needed game over the Hawkins Wolfpack, Tuesday, 25-10, 25-8, and 25-4.

San Antonio Hawkins is not a team that will scare many teams this year so the victory was expected, the key to games like this would be the focus and how the team took care of business.

Volleyball: BCS Passes by Austin Hill Country

Monday, September 19th, 2011

The Bracken Volleyball team used a good passing game to overcome the Knights of Austin Hill Country, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-19.

The game started like it would be a give and take series, but the Warriors stated clicking and the Knights just could not keep up.

“We had great ball control on defense,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said. “The team was helping each other and did not let down.”

This time Coach Teuton was stating the obvious. The Warriors did not have any one girl dominate, Bracken was playing like the ‘Borg’ on Star Trek the Next Generation, as the collective.

The Rebels Succumb to the Hawks, 52-21

Saturday, September 17th, 2011
The Canyon Lake Hawks continued their trek and overpowered the Austin-Travis Rebels 52-21 this past Friday night at the Hawk stadium.

The win was not as close at the final score indicated. The Hawks had a 45-0 lead at halftime and the CL crowd was hoping the visitors would come out and play the second half after the King and Queen were announced for the Homecoming crowd.

Congratulations to Keegan Collins and Zach Henshaw for those honors.

“I did not even know I had won,” Henshaw said. “I was concentrating on what I had to do next when the second half started back.”

Travis did come into the game giving up almost 400 yards per game on the ground for the season which played into the Hawks strength.

that possessed the JV last season has engulfed another group of young man as they continue through this season.

“The boys played really hard,” Head JV  Coach Trent Dunavant said. “We are once again very proud of how they prepared themselves for a road game. They had a very good week of practice and they keep getting better each week.”

The Hawks were up 26-0 before the Rebels could use the light bulbs in the scoreboard. The defense held Travis on their first drive and the rest was ‘history’.

Dominic Theisz started the parade, scoring on a 35 yard run that ended the 65 yard drive.

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Bracken Christian dug deep and left Summit grasping for air in the three game sweep of their District foe, winning 25-6, 25-2, and 25-10.

The game evened the record for the Warriors after losing in four games to OLH earlier this week in Kerrville.

The Warriors were at the door step against OLH, but never knocked on the door and finish the game. BCS had a 21-10 lead and could not finish.

It happened again in the second game when the Warriors were rolling along with an eight point lead with the same result.

BCS Middle School Fumbles Game Away, 13-6

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

The Bracken Middle School fumbled away the win in the fourth quarter against Concordia Lutheran at Warrior Stadium, 13-6.

“We need to work on everything,” Head Coach Steve Dement intercepted. “We will work on our secondary coverage.”

The sad part of this story was how in control of the game the Warriors were in spite of the blunders. Gaining 83 more yards than the Cardinals for the game and the Middle School ending the game on Concordia’s five yard line.

“We had a lot of anxiety,” Quarterback Sterling Garnett said. “We need to keep practicing and we will get better.”
