=====================================================
Canyon Lake had a decent week in court last week as both Varsity teams won needed games as their district race matures into the latter stages.
The Lady Hawks needed a win over Yoakum as they now have a legit chance of making the playoffs.
That chance will be front and center this Tuesday as CL will travel to Gonzales for another must win as it was the Apache’s who won the first contest the first of January.
Canyon Lake showed in their last game they have some fire power scoring over 70 points and having several players contributing.
That game will need to be repeated again this week for the Girls as they showed during the first round with a winnable game against Navarro.
Playing at home on Friday might be that little extra needed to carry that game in the win column for the home team.
A sweep will make a mark and a break even week will give the Hawks more must win games in the weeks to come.
Canyon Lake Boys finished the first round 3-3 and if that can be repeated then a ticket to the playoffs would be next.
The Hawks have proven they could win more as they too played Navarro to the end earlier this year.
For CL to realize a better record the Hawks will need to not let up on any quarter as last Friday’s game the energy level was good enough for Yoakum but that same energy will be losses to the 3 teams presently ahead of them in the standings.
This second round of games will have Navarro and Wimberley playing at the Hawk Nest and that ingredient might be a missing link that could carry CL to a surprising finish.
Girls Soccer finished last week with a 1-0-1 record and this team certainly broke out with a 9 goal game on Friday beating Pleasanton.
“This game was a great confidence booster for our team,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney said. “Every game I ask my girls to go have fun playing the game they fell in love with.”
That was certainly evident in this win as Canyon Lake got a goal from six different ladies.
“I feel the girls genuinely love each other and want to see everyone be successful,” Coach Tierney said. “ This game proves we play a team game, the way it’s meant to be played.”
Coach Tierney was making a point on this years club. The Hawks will be on the road this week and both games are very winnable and if CL can get these two wins, then they will be 6-2-1 going into their last week of non-district games.
The Boys Soccer team finished 1-1 this past week after playing a potent Giddings team and then getting back on track with a win over Pleasanton.
CL Boys Soccer will be on the road this week with games with La Vernia and Lampasas as this non-district schedule will come to a close after next week’s games.
Canyon Lake presently sports a 3-4 record and will look to improve on that mark in these next 4 games.
Go Hawks!!
