GO LAKE & Flatten them like our Pancakes!

Canyon Lake started district play with a win over Fredericksburg, 4-1 for their 10th straight victory.

Last year, The Lake, came into this first contest with the Billies with a lot of confidence opening at home.

That start was a tied battle at 2 goals which led to two more ties (against Wimberley) during district part of their schedule.

CL’s district added Long Creek which results in a 12 game uphill battle as all but one school (Bandera) presently has a .500 or better record.

The Lady Hawks Soccer has had an impressive run during Head Coach Kara Stracener’s 6th years at the helm.

Authentic Canyon Lake says Go Lake & Don’t Forget Valentine’s Day!

With two campaigns reaching 16 wins while already matching CL’s 10 wins during 2023 season. In Stracener’s 6 years she had raked in 80 wins with 43 losses that comes to a .642 winning percentage.

Head Coach Stracener commented bout the Fredericksburg win, “It was a good win to start district. We Struggled to control the game, but obviously were able to convert some of our chances into goals…We were challenged more defensively than we have been all season, so I’m proud of our defense for shutting down Fred’s attack.”

The Lake has ordered a lot more hangers to show off many firsts this season thus far that now has a ten game winning streak but as Coach Stracener commented on seeing a tougher defense with the Billies, then with more schools still to see in a district that presently have 3 teams in the Top 5 and 4 in the Top 10 it is apparent more challenges will be forthcoming.

                  Congrats Lady Hawks!

Savanna Olberholtzer led the team with 3 goals while Bella Biasatti recorded 2 assists and a goal and Senior Jordan Villareal produced an assist to finish the scoring.

Goalkeeper Liza Schexnayder and defender Chylea Gray were rewarded players of the game in this win.

Canyon Lake will be off this Friday and then open their district home schedule next Tuesday February 3rd against Bandera starting at 7:00pm.

The Lake is treading in water that has not been seen by any Hawk sport since the school started after being recognized in one poll as the #1 team in the state.

But with that caveat you will be seeing tough district play each week that has 3 other schools also hanging with impressive resumes to show-off to their fans. Sooo buckle up and Go Lake!

Lady Hawk’s Soccer Starts District Undefeated ~ Standings & Coach Thoughts

                          Plug those Leaks Lake!

Canyon Lake will have a frigid start to district play this Tuesday against an always tough Fredericksburg Billies squad.

But for this season thus far, The Hawks, have been hot with their longest winning streak and starting district play undefeated.

The schools in The Lake’s district have garnered an impressive resume and Fredericksburg will be a good indicator as Freddie’s four losses have come against teams that have a combined 29-9-4 record which gives an idea of how this will be an all out road war.

                 Go Lake Beat Freddie!

In fact, this district will have several evenings without a win just by walking out on the soccer field of play.

The top 4 District 26-4A schools have a combined 33-2-3 (.908) non-district record and have accumulated 174 goals while allowing an anemic 22 before district gets going this week to their opponents.

Need more? Wimberley has played the toughest schedule (.711), Davenport (.571), Marble Falls (.514)  and The Lake (.500).

                   Way to GO HAWKS!

The ReSporter had a chance of catching up with Coach Kara Stracener for her thoughts as CLake enters their next phase of the season.

The ReSporter: Across the board what does it mean to this program to finish undefeated after non district games?

Coach Stracener: “I think this is the first time we’ve been undefeated going into district play which is exciting.  We have been playing well and improving every time we step on the field.  Every season will bring adversity, and the girls know that and are prepared for what our tough district will bring!”

The ReSporter:  And did you get what you wanted in preparation for district?

Coach Stracener: “I think I would have liked to have seen some tougher teams           because our district has some of the best in 4A in the state, but going into district playing with confidence is also important.”

                            Go Lake!

The ReSporter: This is ‘hands down’ the toughest district in the State at any classification. Do you have nightmares before each battle?

Coach Stracener: “I think this is one of the best Canyon Lake teams I’ve coached, so it just shows you that all the teams in our district are improving as we improve.  Iron sharpens iron, so each game is always a battle, but it will prepare those lucky enough to make it into the top 4, which is our goal.”

The ReSporter: And if you have sane moments…what gives you those thoughts when thinking about this team?

Coach Stracener: “I don’t have nightmares…just have remind myself that this is a game, and we play because we love it and the competition is exciting.  But at the end of the day, it’s a blessing to get to compete.  Not everyone gets to do this…”

Lake Lady Soccer Finish Non-District Slate & Standings

Monday, January 19th, 2026

Issy Fory & Abby Lowth were recognized in Win over KIPP-Austin in Lake Classic Tournament.

Canyon Lake’s Lady Soccer had another successful week after sweeping their opponents in CL’s Classic Tournament.

                   Congrats Lake Soccer!

Two Soccer Polls in Texas are filled with schools from Region IV District 26 which happens to be where Canyon Lake resides.

In the TGCA Poll Canyon Lake is presently at #2 followed by Wimberley (4th), Davenport (7th) and Marble Falls (13th).

Fredericksburg was ranked 20th last week but suffered a loss last week that dropped the Billies. But looking at these schools all in the same district tells you how a tough climb it is to finish first.

Max-Preps has Wimberley atop this Poll the Davenport (3rd) followed by Canyon Lake (6th), Marble Falls (14th) and none of these schools will be sighing with relief playing in Fredericksburg.

Go Hawks & Congrats on Tourney Win!

Long Creek is the new school this year and they too have crafted a winning record.

Placing in the top 4 will certainly will give these teams another date in playing one of their neighbors during the post-season.

That almost happened during last year’s campaign if a Hawk win over London would have played Wimberley for the Region IV title.

The Lake tied the Texans in both of their district contests last year.

Canyon Lake will play their final non-district battle against Floresville (6-1-1) who ranks 14th & 24th in the TGCA and Max-Preps Poll.

Way to GO LAKE!

Lady Hawk’s Soccer Win I-10 Shoot-Out Tournament & Standings

Monday, January 12th, 2026

Canyon Lake Hawks celebrating Championship I-10 Shoot Out Trophy!

               Congrats Lady Hawks!

The Canyon Lake Hawk’s Lady Soccer Team (5-0) has the longest Canyon Lake Sports Teams streak of making post-season and has shot out this season with their best start which included a sweep in the I-10 Shootout in Houston this past week finishing with a Championship trophy.

“The first few weeks of season has been spent figuring out who fits best and where, what formation best suits this group, seeing who will step into those leadership roles that were vacated,” Head Coach Kara Stracener stated. “We are getting close to figuring these things out after five games.”

With this fast start, it was that first contest of the season, that produced their best win when the Hawks outraced La Vernia, 9-6. These Bears finished with a 24-2 record last season which included a shut-out (2-0) win over your Hawks while reaching the Semi-Regional round in the playoffs.

Way to Make us Proud Hawks!

“The first La Vernia game was fun because of all the goals, but we struggled defensively, which we are figuring that piece out….all three of our seniors were defenders last year,” Coach Stracener recounted.

On winning this past tournament Coach Stracener gave her two cents, “As far as this weekend, the girls dominated the competition. Distracted the pace of the games. Starting to play more cohesive soccer. Still lots to work as we prepare for this weekend and district.”

Stephen F. Austin future star, Savanna Oberholtzer helped with that domination this past week scoring 10 goals and Bella Biasatti pitched in scoring 6 goals for the Hawks.

La Vernia will be in Canyon Lake’s cross hairs again this week with a 12 Noon start on Thursday to start the Canyon Lake Classic tournament.

A great start for this Hawk team that looks to continuing their streak of games and post-season adventures again this season.

Way to GO LAKE!

Savanna Oberholtzer Signs to Play Soccer at SFA

Thursday, November 13th, 2025

Savanna Oberholtzer signs Soccer Scholarship with SFA flanked by her Dad (Mark) & Mom (Sherry).

Savanna Oberholtzer picked SFA as her next stop for her Soccer and school studies.

Savanna had already been spoken for after Lubbock Christian offered a place on their team but things got turned around recently after Coach Ben Morrison was recently hired as a SFA Coach which was a deal maker for the Lumberjacks.

“I knew the coaches and when they reached out I went there and loved everything it was nice and I will look forward to continue working on my game and keep playing there.”

On what Savanna plans to do in class? “Nursing,” said like a player dribbling down the field with an open net.

Savanna has been a trail blazer for The Lake Soccer team after becoming the all-time scorer last season passing Maddie (her sister) Oberholtzer last season.

Head Coach Kara Stracener shared her thoughts, “She is not one dimensional…in my 25 years of coaching she is in my top 3 athletes and all of those players played on a Division I College.” Coach Stracener continued, “She is important and great for our team and has raised our other players. Running track and being on the cheer team makes her a more rounded athlete when combined. As well as getting to 108 goals and 27 assists in her years at Canyon Lake.

Mark (Dad) Oberholzer shared his thoughts on this momentous day, “I’m so proud of her….she has worked her whole life for this. People see the end product when she competes but it is her whole work ethics seeing her working hard and wanting to be the best.”

“She is very competitive and playing soccer allows her to get physical on the field and when she is knocked down she gets right back up and ready to be in charge,” Sherry (Mom) Oberholtzer quipped. “She has always been in charge!”

                         Way to Go Savanna!

Savanna came to high school and took her soccer-track-cheer teams to new heights competing at the State Level whether it’s field events or running relays and 100-200 meter dash.

With her uncanny way of throwing a soccer ball with her somersault acrobatics to breaking the 12 second (11.99) 100 meter a full half second faster than CL’s #2 Alysha Perez 12.46 back in 2017. Savanna has the best long jump 18-02.75 and is presently in 3rd place for the triple jump (36-02.50) and as a team player she has been on The Lake’s All-Time Best for the 4×100 & 4×200 relay teams. Both of those relays are 2 seconds better than those 2nd place relay teams.

Canyon Lake will certainly be in the running in all of these sports above this year and chance to catch this Lumberjack taking down some trees on her way to higher lofty goals.

The Lady Hawks will be traveling to Poteet High School for their next round of playoffs against London Pirates who support a, 22-4 season record.

This will be Canyon Lake’s 4th try at this well to turn around a 3 game slide and a chance to play for Division IV Crown next week.

The Hawks have beaten Gateway (6-1) and Floresville (5-1) with each of those contests having to come back from a one goal deficit before answering for a lead while holding each opponent without a goal.

Earlier this week in that Floresville contest the Jaguars were clamped down by a stingy Lake defense that allowed just one more chance to score as Callie Dominguez ended up having a more tranquil evening at the net.

Game Broadcast will be from the London Broadcast team with their start time 10 minutes before play begins.

          GO TOPSY-TURVY HAWKS!!

Canyon Lake’s Girls Soccer turned Floresville upside down in a, 5-1 win and will now prepare for London Pirates (22-4 & 16-0 District) in a Regional Semifinals battle.

The Lake’s next opponent is London and that contest will be this Friday at Poteet High School starting at 7:30pm.

CL’s Topsy Turvey contest in this Area Round once again started with a one goal deficit when the Jaguars took a lead at the 28:15 mark left in the first half.

That first 30 minutes of play was not what the doctor ordered for a Hawk team that was finding it hard to get an attack offensively as Floresville was the aggressor of the two with most of those 30 minutes being played with Canyon Lake defending against a resilient Jaguar team.

The Lake would turn it around when Abby Lowth scored on a topsy-turvy header tying this game, 1-1 with 8:52 before halftime.

                     Go Canyon Lake!

Three minutes later Bella Biasatti scored for what would turn out to be the game winner, 2-1.

“Coach (Kara Stracener), during halftime told us that we were better than this,” Avery Norris recalled. “She (Coach) had us close our eyes and imagine us locking in and we got better.”

That 2nd half would be all Canyon Lake switching with Floresville now not being able to get any traction against a Hawk offense that pitched a tent at the Jaguar’s net with a constant barrage of shots on goal.

Topsy Turvy definition: Utter confusion or disorder. With the top or head downward: upside down….
What was down was now up for The Lake and opposite for Floresville and the remainder of this contest.

              Way to Go Lake!!

To start the 2nd half and 11 minutes in had Oberholtzer’s only goal right in front of the net with a pass to herself on the opposite side and a Hawk 2 goal lead, 3-1.

Within that 11 minute span to the final score that had a Norris goal one minute later and then another final topsy-turvy score with 18:37 remaining.

Oberholtzer’s somersault throw-ins led to scores that had Floresville seeing double with no plan of attack.

Now the next rung up the ladder has CL playing a London team that has a stout resume.

However this battle does show a chance for your Lake team with a common opponent being Wimberley who beat the Pirates early this season 4-0.

With the 4 London losses their opponents have a very respectable .718 winning percentage. (65-24-5)

The Lake’s 6 losses to schools that presently have a, 101-22-10 combined record for a .797 winning percentage.

Canyon Lake has an, 0-3 record in their previous Regional Semifinals games and wanting a chance to go another round.

Coach Stracener might want to have these Ladies closing their eyes on the bus imagining another gold ball. With a little topsy-turvy play thrown in for good measure.

Let’s Go Hawks!

                              GO LAKE!

It was a good week for the Lake with Baseball scoring in double digits in all their wins and a just missed opportunity in a, 3-2 loss to State Ranked New Braunfels.

This week Baseball will start district with games against Wimberley.

The Softball team was able to even their district record after taking Navarro to the wood shed in their, 10-3 win over the Panthers. This week it will be @ Davenport on Tuesday and @ the Billies on Friday.

Golf will be in action on Monday in Fredericksburg as the Hawks will get familiar where one round will be played for District further down the road.

Track & Field will be competing at the Texans Relays in Wimberley and a good chance to catch a group of talented Hawks.

                        Let’s Go Lake!

Another headliner will go to this week’s Area Round of playoffs for the Lady Hawk’s Soccer team when they go to Lehman High School to take on Floresville with the start time 7:00pm.

Soccer beat Gateway last week, 6-1 and will look to continue their post-season schedule with another win this Tuesday.

Let’s GO LAKE!
