Hawk Freshman “Hulked” Davenport in a, 51-26 win that saw Canyon Lake outscore these Wolves, 45-19 during the second half.
A contest that had these two teams splitting their middle school years morphed into a ‘Hulk’ vs ‘Lokey’ battle match and The Lake finished off these Wolves with some degree of authority.
Canyon Lake was on Davenport like, a June Bug is on a Peach, after doubling their yards and running roughshod as this battle morphed through the fourth stanza.
Davenport started with the ball with 3 plays and punt sequence, but The Lake’s response was 7 plays before an interception.
These Wolves next two drives ended with a 3 plays and punt after Nehemiah Wykoff sacked Davy’s QB…then Raiden Williams interception stopped that next possession.
In between those two drives it was The Lake who had success with their first score on a 9 play drive that covered 76 yards.
This drive had two pass plays from QB Coen Vanlandingham to Hunt Simpson with last reception going 48 yards to the Davenport 15 yard line. This drive was capped off when a Vanlandingham to Darion Gallo swing pass was converted on a fourth down a, 6-0 lead leaving 7:42 on the clock in that second quarter.
Davenport finally got some traction before half when the Wolves used 10 plays going 66 yards that left just 43 seconds on the first half clock.
A successful point after kick had the home team leading, 7-6 going into intermission.
A 10 minute respite would be enough for a, hulk transformation, that had CLake scoring on their first possession needing 5 plays going 77 yards capped off when Vanlandingham found Nash Cason on a post route for 58 yards and giving The Lake a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of this bloodbath.
The Lake scored on all six of their second half possessions.
What became a pivotal play was seeing a fourth and needing one yard for the Wolves being stopped cold by a Hawk Defensive Line unit.
The Lake would take that turnover and use 3 plays marching 53 yards with a great read for Vanlandingham faking a hand-off for his longest run this year by going untouched after the Wolves tried to stop Isaac Torres but 39 yards later it was a two score lead, 22-7 lead.
Davy would score next on their drive that was composed of 4 consecutive pass plays and a, 22-14 advantage.
It was a Hawk 7 play drive response when Brady Sanderfer’s 4 yard scoring reception, 30-14 lead kept pressure on these ‘getting tired’ Wolves.
Now a video game of scoring would end this game after another Hawk Defense 3 play and punt sequence…then a two play drive when Torres two runs showed off on a 45 yard bruising run and Hawk, 37-14 advantage.
Torres finished this game rushing for 187 yards on 20 carries.
After another quick score for this Home team only aroused a sleeping giant when Carter Stearns was inserted into the offense and 75 yards later The Lake nullified that last score and now a Hawk, 44-20 advantaged.
Stearns recorded 3 consecutive stops in Davenport’s backfield showing this player’s resolve and his never say quit energy. (Think ‘Hulk’)
The Lake would continue scoring with their last touchdown 36 seconds left on the clock when Sanderfer would score his second touchdown catch which eclipsed a 50 point barrier and, 51-26 bludgeoning.
The Lake will be back at the Hawk Nest next Thursday when they play host to Taylor with a 5pm kickoff….Way to Go Lake!
