Lady Hawks Lose Last Home Game to Boerne, 39-32

Senior’s Katie Williams, Hannah St. John, Tammy Dean, and Kelsey Long played valiantly in their final game at Canyon Lake on Friday night in a loss to Boerne, 39-32.

The stat line for this crew of girls was an impressive sight with this combined total:

                       3pt Pts Rebounds
             fgm-fga fgm-fga ftm-fta tot or-dr tot Steals Blocks
Four Seniors 8-18 2-4 3-5 21 1-8 9 2 1

Boerne was the front runner in district play and showed it as this game started when they jumped out to a nine point lead after the first quarter.

That Greyhound lead increased to 15 points as the teams went into halftime for instructions.

Canyon Lake answered the bell by cutting into that lead seven points after that third quarter, 33-25 deficit.

The Hawks were down just three points with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, but the rim closed for the rest of this contest as Boerne closed with four points giving them their seven point victory.

Boerne had 18 wins this year that were in the double digit category.

The 39 points scored by the Greyhounds was also their lowest total for this season.

All good points for Canyon Lake but having those same problems in their other losses became evident again.

Turnovers? 27 Remember that magic number of being under 25 to get a win.

Free Throws? Under 50%, Not saying that a team can shoot 100%, but any total over 50% gives them more points and then changes the way a game will finish with momentum.

Scoring 40 or more points? Well look at the score and you would deduce a win if that total could of been reached.

Amber Ramsey played a good defensive game with four blocks and her patented three steals playing inside the paint.

“We got down big early,” Coach Jimmy Chamberlin commented. “We played our way back into the game with good ‘D’ in the third quarter to cut Boerne’s lead in half.”

“Girls played their hearts out,” Coach Chamberlin said proudly. “Hard to imagine this is the last time Katie Williams will play a basketball game at CLHS. These seniors have left a great foundation for us to build on for the future.”

That pretty much sums it up as this season draws to a close. Canyon Lake will have their last game next Tuesday in Navarro.

The ReSporter will have some final stats as we draw near the end of this season. Williams has her name on top of several categories and we look forward to sharing those and all of the girls accomplishments next week.
