Lake Boy’s Preview in Kingville Region IV Meet.
The Lake will be off to the races this week when boys go against Region IV schools for a chance of being in that final and ultimate prize ~ State Meet.
Track & Field is a sport where each competitor has two goals. Win an event and/0r achieve a personal best (PR).
With each meet during this time of the season athletes are worked through a sieve that eventually only has two that reach that next round.
The times and distances below will not have every athlete is showing a mark.
The ReSporter only has events that involve a Hawk. The list reflects how our Lake’s time/distance squares up with other schools. This allows you to see what would need to be done to advance to State.
If athletes haven’t performed better than a Hawk Athlete then they will not have their showing~showing, unless their time or mark was close enough to make a difference.
Hence, that first salvo (qualifying) comes into play with that second part of achieving a PR in their event.
Region IV in Kingsville will begin this Thursday with finals for all the Field Events and 3200 Meter Run.
There were four athletes from Area Meet who made the cut for this Region Meet which will now have qualifying running events for Saturday and crowning those two athletes that make the State Meet.
The Lake Boys have four events as follows:
4x200 Meter Relay Gage Jones, Peyton King 1:30.96 Chris Brown, Tristan Alexander 1:27.82 Wimberley 1:27.92 Lago Vista 1:28.11 Austin LBJ 1:28.42 Gonzales 1:28.89 Bay City 1:28.97 Sinton
This will be a tough road for Canyon Lake but in Relays there is more moving parts (pardon the pun) and chances for a faster school getting disqualified. With a good run a PR is possible as this time by The Lake stands as the 2nd fastest and topping that would be a great year.
1:30.29 was made back during the 2018 season with these 4 athletes.
Cardosa, Greyson Lee, Rose and Boehm.
1600 METER RUN Gibson Cover 4:41.39 4:35.28 La Feria 4:35.53 La Feria 4:37.53 Tulosa 4:38.47 Rio Grande City 4:39.28 Floresville 4:41.39 Gibson Cover
This will be interesting as Cover improved in the Area Meet right at 9 seconds and still seemed to have more in his tank.
Is it possible? Certainly as longer runs can have seconds better when adrenaline and competing against faster athletes.
Cover ran the fastest 1600 meter in Hawk history by over 4 seconds passing Alek Villavicencio’s 4:45.83 in 2023.
HIGH JUMP Peyton King 6-00 Anthony Hockman 5-10 6-04 Floresville 6-03 Devine 6-03 Rockport 6-02 Gonzales 6-02 Cuero 6-02 La Marque
Interesting event when Hockman jumped 6-02 earlier this year so we certainly know he could reach that measure. King PRed at the Area Meet and so the question? Can he repeat another PR at Region.
Another event that anything can happen in going back 13 years ago when Marisa Ellis won State in this event and topped her all-time best by 4 inches that day. The all-time best is Jordan Anderson who reached 6-06 and performed in State the same year Ellis won the Ladies side.
TRIPLE JUMP Jacob Price 42-07 46-10 Sweeney 44-09 Cuero 44-08 Long Creek 44-02 Somerset 43-07 Devine 43-06 Lago Vista
Price will have a tough event after PRing at Area and will need to have another PR in this Meet. He did reach the 2nd best Triple Jump at Area but is still behind Caimen McDonough who jumped 43-04 during the 2018 season,
Should be a competitive meet for a Hawk Track Team that certainly PRed this season with great showings.
Way to GO LAKE!
