Hawks Lose, 1-0 to Boerne
If Boerne is ranked in the Top 5 for the State of Texas, then based on the past two contests with the
Greyhounds, Canyon Lake should be ranked in the Top 10.Simply put, the Hawks lost another one run game to a very sound baseball team and all they have to show for this outing is another loss.
However, that is not entirely true based on the level of play displayed on Tuesday night at the Hawk’s Baseball Diamond.
Travis Walker was nails on the mound as he held the Greyhounds to four hits and CL’s defense was just as impressive in helping to keep this game in doubt until that last out.
Walker had Boerne guessing at the plate as he threw the ‘eefus’ pitch with mastery.
“I’ve been throwing that pitch since I was 12 years old,” Walker recollected. “They called it the ‘Big Cheese’, and somedays it is on and somedays it is off.”
That pitch would be classified as being ‘on’ this evening.
“You can’t be scared of nobody and we just have to have a swag when we go out and play,” Walker said when commenting on how the Hawks will need to proceed as they match up with Boerne for the last time this Friday.
The Battery of Walker to Michael Brady was certainly on as both teams had a very good baseball game for those baseball purest out there.
Only two Greyhounds reached third base, but it just so happened Boerne only needed one to reach home plate for the win.
Peyton Sipila led the Hawks with two of their three hits and Brady has now reached base in his last 18 out of 19 games, after reaching base in this contest with a walk.
Brady also threw out another base runner in the later innings giving him a chance for being on a ballot for All-District as he also boasts having the best batting average in the league.
“They (Boerne batters) were doing some different stuff, like pulling their bats back to get in my way
while they were trying to bunt,” Brady said nonchalantly as that did not get in his way of throwing out another Greyhound. “I just need to concentrate on the ball and not worry about their antics.”
“I think we are playing to our competition, we just stepped it up and we need to play like this for the rest of the year,” Senior Catcher Brady closed.
“I tell the kids that we are the top two teams in district when we step on the field,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. “When we are playing defense and have pitching like we did tonight then we can be tough. Our achilles heal is our offense.”
Boerne has a good resume with these results before CL’s first loss a couple of week’s ago.
Here are some scores of some of their games: First column are wins Boerne had going into that first game with Canyon Lake. Second column are games Boerne has played before their 1-0 win yesterday.

The Hawks need to put Boerne jerseys on their opponents and then go out and play their games again. You might just have a team that would be preparing for the playoffs.
Canyon Lake will have one more chance to derail a Greyhound this Friday when they finish their series with one of the best teams in the state.
