BCS has Glimpses but need a Longer Look after Loss to AHC

Bracken Warriors started their year with a loss as Austin Hill Country Knights jumped on the home team with an answer  and then some for every touchdown but Bracken scored.

There are glimpses of great play, but those glimpses just don’t last long enough to gather that elusive ‘momentum’ word.

“Our goal this week is to play better and play four quarters,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “In order to do that we will need to start playing with a sense of urgency.”

What air that was in the balloon seemed to be sucked out as soon as Bracken failed to score on their second possession while resting on the three yard line with nothing to show for a drive that could of tied or put BCS in the lead.

Bracken had a nifty 50 yard run by Noah Boriack to start the series but after two runs for seven yards with Preston Koch, the Warriors fizzled out with two incompletions.

“We could not score from inside the 10 yard line,” Coach Fields said. “We got stung and could not respond.”

The Knights had a run of five touchdowns without an answer from Bracken.

BCS found themselves down 23 points at half time and were only able to match the Knights in the second half and having that same deficit as this game finished.

“We showed some toughness and we came out of halftime down 31 to 8,” Fields fielded. “We were able to play dead even–30-30 during the second half, but we just have to do better.”

There were other glimpses that might give hope for this season.

Davis Scott’s interception on the Knights first series of downs allowed another glimpse of a great play. Boriack had a run of 31 yards on his first play after that turnover and a lead–8-0.

That lead would be the last time Bracken would be on the good side of that scoreboard.

Boriack also had a glimpse during his 50 yard run that was mentioned earlier.

Jeff Camp had a glimpse on his catch and run for 46 yards late in the third quarter.

Another ‘glimpse’ was a 55 yard run from Preston Koch for your Warriors last score. Koch previous best rushing play was for 33 yards in his game with OLH last year.

That run was Koch’s longest run during his career that now has him knocking on the door to become the third leading rusher in the Warriors history needing just 24 yards to pass David Martinez in that category.  Koch stands with 970 yards while Martinez finished his career with 993 steps.

Koch’s 155 yards on the ground was his best game and having more glimpses like he had in the second half can only help as this season inches closer to district play.

Glimpses need to be sustained for better results on the scoreboard as Daniel Forgione also showed some glimpses defensively as he was getting some playing time in that second half.

Coy Zunker led the team with 15 tackles while Scott (14) and John Colby (10) also finished in double figures on the defensive side.

Bracken certainly has many things to work on as classes started this first week, but you can understand how there might be some more learning on the horizon as BCS prepares for their jaunt to the Houston area with a game with Sugarland Logos.

Glimpses will hopefully turn into a longer look at some players that need to perform at a higher level.
