 Opening Day

Canyon Lake and Blanco has been close games these past four years.

The Hawks hold a 3-2 advantage and in those last four years no team has won by more than a touchdown.

Last year CL held on for a five point win when Blanco dropped a pass in the end zone on their last play of the game. A touchdown on that call by the Panthers would of put your Hawks in a deep hole for the whole season. Especially starting with such a tough loss.

Blanco did finish with an 8-5 record last season going three games deep into the playoffs.

Players too watch on the Panther defensive side of the ball is Aikman Elrod who finished with 157 tackles last season. Another Elrod (Colton) played strong safety and will also be a force for these Panthers.

Canyon Lake will be ready for Blanco’s wing-T offense with a chance of acquiring their third win in a row with our friends to the north.

Fullback Alex Juarez, Tight End Andrew Burgess will be back with QB McKay Adamson.

Canyon Lake will unveil their slot T offense and hope to control the clock and play to a strength with backs and offensive line.

That offensive line will be thin with just a few returning starters. Senior Justin Monfils will be starting his third year on the line and hopes to be a key part of helping these Hawks to a playoff spot that has been missed these past two seasons.

Junior Quarterback Skylar Tschoepe will be having his debut calling signals and hopes to also be that ingredient to return CL to that second season called post-season.

Last year, Canyon Lake out gained the Panthers by over 130 yards of offense, yet lost the penalty battle with 14 flags and over 100 yards of lost real estate.

Those are little things that will become big in a game that has Blanco always ready to give their all.

Last year, Canyon Lake had a successful JV game against the Panthers, winning 38-14.

Dubois rushed for 212 yards in this contest and afterward was moved up for the Varsity.

Now Dubois has a chance to continue a Hawk streak in winning their third game with Blanco.

Don’t get overconfident tho as Blanco’s JV scored on a kick-off just as their Varsity did last year and that could be those little things that help in derailing a game.

Special teams will always be that question mark as teams don’t have a chance of playing other teams in scrimmages in this realm.

Last year, the kick-off return hurt heavily that first part of the season and improving in this off season has to be evident.

Canyon Lake has a chance of winning their fourth game against an opponent.

A first for this program.
