This Week in District 26-4A Basketball
Basketball is getting to a place where each game becomes magnified and as the Lady Hawks start their third week of play you can get an idea of where most of the teams might be when the playoff fairy comes calling.
At this writing, CL Hawks are holding down the second place spot with Navarro being in the driver’s seat as they only need to play one more game to finish the first round of games.
Navarro’s game with Gonzales should be a win since the Apache’s are winless at this writing leaving them with a smooth sailing for the first seed.
That second seed will be a place where all but Yoakum and Gonzales still have a legitimate chance of attaining.
Canyon Lake has two games this week that can go either way as both Wimberley and La Vernia have two wins.
A CL win against Wimberley would give the Hawks the inside track for a second place finish, but a loss would probably have a lot of coaches getting their playoff tie breaker books as this season enters into the last round of games.
Cuero should be favored in both of their games this week and this time next week have 4-2 record. That is one reason the one point victory last Friday over the Gobblers was a good road win for the young Hawks.
Wimberley going 2-0 or 1-1 will hinge on the Texans game with Canyon Lake this Tuesday at the Hawk Nest.
La Vernia five point loss to Wimberley was a set back but they can certainly wipe that loss off when Canyon Lake goes to the Bear Den next Friday.
So, how Canyon Lake handles this week’s games will go a long way of giving you an idea of what the standings might look like in three weeks.
This basketball campaign is similar to how the Volleyball season played out and who goes up and down in the standings.
Based on how the games have transpired up to this point The ReSporter feels the District 26-4A Standings will look like the following as the last round of games start next week.
Navarro 6-0
CL Hawks 4-2
Cuero 4-2
Wimberley 4-2
La Vernia 3-3
Yoakum 1-5
Gonzales 0-6
The ReSporter will let you guess your on scenario, but we will be able to revisit this site next week as each week goes under the scope for more scrutiny as the season goes into it’s final lap.
Having a two win Hawk week would put the standings in a less crowded field at the top and that is why they play the games.
Go Hawks!!
