Baseball: CL Hawks Finish 1st Day of Marion Tourney with a 2-1 Record
Canyon Lake finished their first day in the Marion tournament winning 2 out of 3 games and wait to see how they will rank on Saturday’s contests.
Caleb Williams helps in getting Canyon Lake with 2 wins.
The Hawks won the first two battles with SA Harlan (2-1) and Marion (11-4) before succumbing to Blanco in the night cap, 6-1.
“We played a lot of baseball,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We will come back and shuffle the deck and see how we do on Saturday.”
Canyon Lake had some decent pitching as Tanner Schultz gave up just one hit and shared the mound with Jeremy Greene and Tyler Pauly to finish this game unscathed.
Caleb Williams helped with a rbi that helped in a contest where runs were selling at a premium.
“We came up with some key huts,” Williams deduced. “This is a team game we will compete and not give up and that will always give us a chance for a win.”
That proved true after allowing that one run to open the game before a comeback win for the Hawks.
“We had players on first and second and I hit a 2 out single,” Williams recapped his rbi that helped get CL in a position for this opening season contest.
Tyler Pauly came in for one inning of relief and recorded the save by striking out the side for the win.
Schultz and Greene gave up just 4 hits and this one run contest.

Michael Claycomb went the distance during that second game after the Hawks came from behind again after the Marion Bulldogs started with a 3 run first inning.
Canyon Lake would respond with an 8 run inning for this comeback and eventual 7 run escape against the host School.
Matt Anderson led the team with 2 hits and 2 rbi’s in helping put the Bulldogs back in their house.
Now Canyon Lake will see what will be in store on Saturday with a chance to improve and come away with some hardware.
