Canyon Lake’s Boys & Girls Basketball Update

Landon McLaughlin is turning it around as district play starts this Friday.

Canyon Lake Boy’s & Girl’s Basketball Update:

CL Basketball has had their up and downs so far this year as the Ladies breezed through a non-district portion of their year with a, 16-5 record and now find themselves with two losses with another school that is presently ranked in the Top 10 in Texas next on their schedule in Boerne.

       Way to Hit’em Hard Hawks!!

District 28-4A has been a have-have not league so far and the Greyhounds are joined with Fredericksburg and Wimberley with all 3 having unblemished district records at 2-0.

Canyon Lake is joined with Bandera and Davenport with identical, 0-2 records which will give you an idea that the 4th playoff slot will be a battle between these three teams.

The Ladies will finish their 3-game gauntlet to open district play this Friday against Boerne before finding out how they might compare to the Bulldogs and Wolves. These two will be matched up this Friday for an early indication of their strengths and weaknesses.

Common opponents gives an edge to Canyon Lake but that is certainly not a given based on how consistent each of these games play out.

A very young team that will need to rebound quickly next week which has your Hawks having both of these schools on their docket. A pivotable week to say the least that should show which school has that inside track.

For the Boys side of this spectrum, Canyon Lake will start their district schedule this Friday when they face a state ranked Greyhound team.

                    Go Hawks!!

The Lake was able to get a win over Comfort, 58-39 at home on Tuesday (see box score below) and will have a very similar situation that the Ladies have in fighting for a 4th place finish.

The haves for the Boy teams are Boerne, Wimberley, and Bandera who are playing above the rim, then there is a Fredericksburg team that has an inside track for that 4th spot in district with a resume that has some not so good results and that could open a door for the Hawks and Davenport to grab that post-season ticket.

“It was really good to get the monkey off our back and get a win,” Head Coach Chapman stated. “I think through all of this past month or so, our guys have done a great job of continuing to work hard and stay with the process. It is really frustrating when things aren’t going your way, but they stuck with it and hopefully that will pay off in the next few weeks.”

These few weeks will have a look much like the ladies with some must wins coming in games with Freddie and Davenport.

CL did show some signs with some good play from Adrian Duque and Landon McLaughlin.

Adrian Duque did not make things COMFORTable in 58-39 win.

“Adrian (Duque) did a great job tonight,” Coach Chapman commented. “He shot the ball well, and played within himself. It was good to see him break out a little bit. Landon has done an outstanding job for us this season. He does a bunch of the dirty work and little things that the stat sheet doesn’t show. We are really proud of his progress.”

Will the win be enough to forge a chance in making the post-season?

“I hope that we can now gain a little momentum going forward and into district,” Coach Chapman finished. “I still believe and our players do as well, that we are a playoff team. We just have to continue to get better and keep that belief. I am looking forward to district play.”

Boerne enters district play sporting a 17-6 record and then a 17-8 Bandera team will be next up for The Lake.

A must win home game against a 9-12 Davenport and then two games later will have an away Fredericksburg (13-10) team that will finish out the first round of district battles. The Billies opened their season with a 63-43 win over Comfort which compares as a toss up after CL’s 19 point victory over that same School.

A small opening for both Hawk Teams with similar roads for a chance of adding more games to their schedule.
