Hawk’s Softball Beat Luling Behind a 13 Strikeout Game from Gabby Barnes, 8-3

Liza Schexnayder prepares to do battle with an opposing pitcher. Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake Softball had a solid game beating the Luling Eagles, 8-3 behind a 13 strikeout stint for Gabby Barnes who also contributed some power with a 2-run homer and double.

“Gabby had one of here best games of the season on the mound last night,” Head Coach Hayley Galloway surmised. “You could tell from the first inning that she was throwing with confidence, and it showed in the results. She was getting a lot of swing and misses and ended the game with 13 strikeouts and only gave up 3 hits.”

Barnes threw 128 pitches with 63% as strikes lthat kept pressure on those Luling batters.

CL’s bats were hot on this night that had 3 Hawks (Barnes, Rianna Gonzales and Aubrey Long with 3 hits a piece) accounting for 9 of those 14 hits. It was those 5 extra base hits that showed some power as The Lake looks to complete their tournament rounds in Blanco this weekend.

Go Hawks & Way to Fly High!!

“Personally, I was struggling at the end of the game but I had lots of encouragement from my team to push through the last three outs,” Barnes explained. “I ended up getting 13 strikeouts to help our team to the win.”

Barnes continued, “So proud of our offense, even though we were getting out all of the hits that night were hard line drives. Couldn’t be more proud of my team last night!”

Those words have some lofty stats that back up Barnes’ being excited bout       the Hawks offense, Long and Gonzales have been solid with their bats this season. Long finished last season with 8 hits and has already doubled that total this campaign with a doable .500 batting average.

Gonzales has raised her overall average this season and has shown power with 7 extra base hits thus far as district comes calling next Tuesday with a home game against Navarro.

There are many other Lady Hawks that have upped their game this season and with a few more games this weekend can hopefully fine tune this team as district battles come calling next week.

Let’s GO HAWKS!!
