Canyon Lake’s Soccer just missed a golden opportunity for staving off Wimberley for a win last Friday but a tie certainly cemented this team for a 3rd seed with a chance of upping that ante with a sweep of this week’s contests.
Wimberley has one loss for this season (to a team from Louisiana) and two ties (to a team from the Hawk Nest). All the rest of their battles have been wins and now if The Lake can secure a win this Tuesday in Marble Falls and at home against Davenport…then that should give CLHS a 2nd seed going into the playoffs.
The Hawks scored in the first half with a corner kick that had the ball bouncing around like a pin-ball machine for a few seconds when Junior 4Midfielder Ryarose Clark scored her 7th goal of the season with just over a 20 minutes into this game.
That was when Goalie Callie Dominguez went to work by saving several shots on goals by these Texans.
With the score tied at 1 goal a piece Dominguez was able to just tip a ball over the back of the net that was just inches for a score.
“I was just hoping I would get to it,” Dominguez said when asked what she was thinking as the ball approached the net. “It was just all the way up there (top of the net)….I don’t really think but just react to the ball.”
On keeping the Texans’ to just one goal in two games, “I’ve been just trying to shut them down and my defenders….they’re great and I really appreciate all of them.”
Head Coach Kara Stracener shared her thoughts, “Sometimes it’s hard to score so early in a game because you have so much time to play…but our girls played great…we had a game plan and they did a really good job everybody doing their job collectively.”
Coach Stracener closed, “We talked about the fight in the ‘dog’ tonight and we had some dogs fight and that was what I was most proud of…”
Canyon Lake will be back in action this Tuesday in Marble Falls a team fighting for that 4th seed and then Friday at home against Davy.
Keep those dogs fighting as this regular season closes out!
Go Hawks & BEAT MARBLE FALLS!
