Texans Migrate South in Loss to Hawk Freshman, 48-0
Cameron Hebert, Sheldon Flint, Triston Chacon, and Trenton Lorett after won over Wimberley
Canyon Lake was so convincing in their win over Wimberley that the Texans headed south after the loss at the Hawk Nest, 48-0.
On CL’s first series, the Hawks had a 10 yard penalty holding the Hawks without a first and their first and only punt.
After that series the Texans had a hard time turning off the water in what would be an inevitable convincing win.
That first set of downs had this Freshman team gaining 15 yards but the penalty left them 5 yards short of a first and their first and only punt of the game.
Wimberley got one of their two first downs on their next possession but that was all the joy they would get as the punting formation would become routine.
“They have had a year of hearing Wimberley talk after last year’s game,” Head Freshman Coach Bill Greene said. “They decided they would go to work and win tonight,”
“This was one of the best games I have seen,” Coach Greene continued. “Now we will need to win the battle of complacency and here’s hoping they will be successful in the classroom too.”
If the Hawk Freshman take the classroom like this game then they will graduate with honors.
The Texans would finish this night with a total of 39 yards on their 33 plays giving you an idea of how dominating this contest turned out to be.
On the Hawks next 7 possessions the result was paydirt and one of the most dominating wins for any Sub-Varsity squad since the school started.
Canyon Lake had just two plays that did not result in positive yardage and those two snaps had a Hawk runner losing just one yard.
CL Freshman would average 9 yards per play for the night as explosive plays were a common place with a Texan team that was checking for their passports as halftime approached.
Trenton Lorett had 95 total yards via receiving and running with 8 touches on the night.
“Our lineman were faster off the ball,” Lorett gave credit where credit was due. “Just knowing our line will be there for us helped get this win tonight.”
Those players in the trenches took no prisoners on this night by dominating both sides of the ball as the Texans had a 15 yard head start in going south rushing for (-) 15 yards.
“Everyone has been hyped up and we did not want to mess around and not get goofy,” Offensive Lineman Sheldon Flint stated. “They (Texans) would call out stunts and then we hit them right in the mouth as we had some revenge driving us.”
Flint was reminiscing thoughts from last year’s only defeat to this Freshman team at the hands of Wimberley.
“We all worked as a team and it was not just one person,” Defensive Lineman Cameron Hebert tackled. “We felt really hyped and gave it all we had and they have our names on their helmets now.”
The Texans might need those names on their trek to Mexico if they need help.
Connor Rose was another one of many players to run roughshod through Wimberley’s line as his 4 rushes had two touchdowns and his average run covered 17 yards a tote.
Cade Dunavant led Canyon Lake with 98 yards rushing on this night that had many backs with room to run to daylight as the night settled in.
Eight different Hawks ran the ball with Quarterback Cooper Harris coming in last with a 7 yard run. Which would be 22 more yards than the Wimberley team would have on this night.
“We put Wimberley in our head every time we popped the sled,” Running Back/Linebacker Triston Chacon mushed. “I just think this week we had studied all of their plays and we knew the plays they would run.”
Canyon Lake did seem to be in the Texans huddle based on how this game transpired.
“We just had that feeling of losing to them last year and so we just worked together and no one was left behind,” Chacon said as he left the Texans behind as they headed south.
Now the Hawks will head to Lampasas for next week’s game as they will need to find out if they can have that same zeal against the Badgers.
“We will do the same thing and push that sled,” Flint sparked.
“We will need to face the next team the same way we did with Wimberley because this season is not over,” Lorett said with conviction.
