Third in Series Hawk Offense with Quarterback

QB Jace Wheeler readies to take Lake past 2nd round in playoffs.

                                 GO LAKE

This year The Lake is full with hopes of a complete year from the Quarterback position as Jace Wheeler will be going into his third season at the helm.

This is the second time in football that Canyon Lake has had a 3-year starter at this position when Ben Fulton was taking snaps for 3 years during those Slot-T seasons.

Fulton, along with Jace Wheeler, are the only two quarterbacks with a better than 100% QB Rating.

Canyon Lake these past two seasons has two consecutive 8 win campaigns and Wheeler has been a part of 21 of those those games garnering a 14-8 record and will look to surpass Fulton if the Lake can reach that 88 win plateau matching those last two campaigns.

Wheeler comes into this season with a .636 winning percentage which leads all CL’s QBs while Ben Fulton, compiled a .583 percentage with his 21 wins during his 36 starts.

TOP FIVE QUARTERBACKS (based on Yardage).

With two leading receivers who finished last year as a dynamic duo will be back with a chance to continue waking that sleeping giant in a passing game which had been dormant through a 12 year slot-T stretch.

The ReSporter’s earlier article featured skill position is worth another mention from Last Year’s Receiving Stats Below:

                 No Yds Ave Lg TD
Peyton King 44 925 21.0 82 13
Kobe Halverson 35 599 17.1 55 6
Total 79 1524 19.3 82 19

“I have two of the best receivers in this district so if I put it into their hands then that makes my game a lot easier,” QB Wheeler said. “As a team I am trying to get better than 8-4 (The Lake’s last two season record) and we are trying to go into that third round and get past that second round we will be trying to go as far as we can.”

                            Go Lake!

Another added element to Wheeler’s game last year was his run game. Wheeler had negative yardage during his Sophomore season but last year topped the 200 yards on the ground.

Having a signal caller running will add more homework for opposing defenses in preparing for The Lake.

                 Att Yds Ave Lg TD
’24 Wheeler 18 -35 -1.9 7 0
’25 Wheeler 43 207 4.8 30 2
Total 61 172 2.8 30 2

The Lake will be looking for more battles with the Junior Varsity as Jake Welkey, Jake Stringer and Jacob Little will be looking to head the class for next year’s next varsity quarterback.

Canyon Lake’s only playoff year that went past the 2nd round happened during Fulton’s last year and that stat of going further would certainly be a goal for Wheeler to pass in his final go round.

Let’s GO LAKE!
