Heath McDonough Clears High Jump Bar, signing with Texas Lutheran

                      Heath McDonough next stop will be Texas Lutheran in Track & Field

Heath McDonough signed this past week on his intentions to enroll at Texas Lutheran for Trackj & Field Team.

McDonough will go down as one of the best athletes for the Hawks as this young man was busy in several sports as Texas Lutheran saw in this student that can be classified as an athlete.

In recruiting, there are many players that are labeled as ‘Athlete’ because that young man can do several positions and a school will not want to cement someone into one position, who could play more than one endeavor.

When Heath signed with this NCAA Division III school then that last statement is not just for finding a position for one sport….but a student that can play several sports and that will be a big plus for TLU in having McDonough.

“Heath is one of the most accomplished athletes ever for Canyon Lake,” Athletic Director Charlie Drum stated during his introduction of McDonough. “His classwork was just as good and he will take school to another level…..you will be missed.”

Coach Drum lost a player that did it all on offense and defense and replacing him on next year’s football team will be a hard task.

Head Track Coach, Troy Moses, gave his sentiments on McDonough, “If there are two words you can describe Heath is that he is dependable and accountable….he rarely missed practice and track practices can be tough, but he does not complain and he just does what he is told.”

McDonough presently ranks 3rd for points scored in track these past 2 years as he has just started his last go round for this Track Season.

In his first meet last week, McDonough started where he left off and won the High Jump event against several larger schools.

The High Jump is what TLU is wanting McDonough to compete in, but an athlete that was part of a Hawk’s record, 4×400 relay group was just one of many ways Heath scored points for the Hawks.

Basketball was another sport Heath excelled in, as his Senior year was highlighted in leading the team in rebounds while scoring critical points in several games.

“He always wanted to play football,” Sandy McDonough (Mom) said. “We had him playing Soccer and he would be watching other kids playing football and he knew that was what he wanted to play….I did not want him to play but he had his own ideas of what he wanted to do and so we went with it.”

“When he was five years old he wanted to play football and I was worried, but he was very adamant,” Mom McDonough continued.

On what she thinks Heath will bring to TLU, Sandy said, “He will work hard and he will communicate and be thankful for this opportunity.”

Dale (Dad) had some of those same sentiments, “I’m not worried bout Heath….I have confidence in him and he is going to do the right thing.”

Heath McDonough commented on what TLU wanted him to do, “High Jump!, they have talked to me about football….but I will work hard in the classroom so it (school) won’t be so expensive.”

That last comment just put a smile on his parent’s face as Heath will prepare for his next bar to clear in a few months.

The Hawk Nation will certainly miss an athlete that gave everything when he readied himself for competition and that is something that TLU will get dividends on as school starts up next August.

Thanks Heath for helping the Hawks and remember, you are not finished yet….there is still a higher bar to clear.
