Volleyball: BCS Sweeps OLH win 5th Straight
Bracken Christian got back at Kerrville OLH on Saturday with a three game sweep, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-19.
Just a couple of weeks ago this same Warriors team was beaten in Kerrville after enjoying substantial leads in two of the games. The ability of not finishing was their downfall.
Jump up the calendar from that dreadful night and you will see a team that now enjoys a five game district winning streak and is tied for first place.
The Warriors are now starting their second round through district and are jockeying for playoff seeding.
Caitlin Pruitt served a four point rally for an 8-2 lead early in the first game. Amanda Morgan and Payton Stanush were the two players with kills in that time frame, it set the stage for a comfortable lead.
OLH was able to keep it close until Briana Martinez got separation that BCS was needing on her second rotation from the serving line.
During Martinez five point service, Morgan had two kills, Karagan Day one kill, Pruitt one kill, and Martinez capping the run off with an ace.
The 19-10 lead was coasting time for the Warriors as OLH succumbed to BCS with a seven point defeat.
“It feels like we should of done this the first time we played,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton admonished.
The second game was played closer as a four point victory was the largest lead in the game.
Pruitt and Stanush were serving when the Warriors were able to regain and advance the winning margin.
Stanush seemed to know where the hits were coming going to be during the match.
“Coach (Teuton) tells me where to go…when their big hitter was on the outside, then I would go to the outside line and when she was in the middle we knew she would be hitting it left,” Libero Stanush said. “My goal is to dig everything I can and go for everything.”
Pruitt serving was in response to a similar rally for the Hawks, that ballooned OLH’s lead 13-7. Pruitt, served the next five points bringing BCS back into the game.
Day was helpful during that rally with two kills.
Trailing 18-20, Stanush then served the next six points allowing the Warriors to finish off the Hawks, 25-21.
Morgan was instrumental with two kills and a Bailey Beene block after a service ace from Stanush.
The third game was all Warriors as they scored at will clipping the wings off the Hawks. BCS enjoyed leads of 11 points in the game allowing OLH no chance to mount a run.
Bracken seems to be playing with a new focus at the right time of season. The last two wins have been against teams bunched up at the top of district.
“Our goal is to get first in district,” Sophomore Amanda Morgan stated confidently. “Now we have to be mentally tough and not take where we are for granted.”
Now, the Warriors enjoy a two game lead over their rivals from Kerrville.
“Now we are going to push things and try to stay undefeated (during the second round of district),” Teuton exclaimed. “We are trying to get different things in. Last year we beat the district champions, this year we want to be the district champions.”
Bracken Athletes will have one scary development based on this game… Moms and Dads will be getting out brooms for some sweeping at home.
Yes, BCS was that dominant in this game.
