CL Hawk Freshman had a demolition derby in win over Burnet, 57-0
The Hawk Freshman demolition team was at it again when the Burnet Bulldogs were left without a leash after a 57-0 set back. Yes, the game could have been worse but with what is now a routine running clock to start the 2nd half is now becoming a norm for this wrecking ball, group of players.

CL’s Freshman were held to just 14 plays on offense and scored on 7 of those snaps. Those scoring plays averaged a hefty, 53.1 yards per score.
In a 6-man football game, if a team has superior talent, they will not use their special teams to field a punt. That allows that punted ball to roll as far down the field as possible which will give teams a chance to have more field to work with before a touchdown can be scored.
That was the case, on this night, when Burnet punted 4 times for 108 yards which was quickly counted for the Hawk’s bank accounts in the form of rushing real-estate.
Another part of a 6-man battle has a game stopped at halftime or anytime in the half once a team has a 45 point advantage.
What is missed many times, when an offense is destroying an opponent, comes in the form of a defense that is doing their part in smothering that team. On this night CL’s defense scored once and had another interception called back by a penalty in this contest.
Burnet was a recipient of this type of score when Marshall McConnell got into the scoring downpour on a 44 yard interception return to start the 2nd quarter that would put the Hawks up, 36-0.
Shayne Moss had that 2nd interception but had his 91 yard return nullified when a flag was thrown.
The Bulldogs would finally answer with a 13 play drive during the 2nd quarter, that ended on the Hawk’s 30 yard line. Three of the four Burnet first downs happened on this drive but the biggest accomplishment for the visitors on this possession was being able to run out the clock that allowed this Wrecking Ball Team just one play from scrimmage before half.

That offensive play would be the only snap in the first half that did not result in a score, as CL would go through the motions on this play to end the half, 36-0.
Halftime Recap: Burnet with a 13 play drive covering 42 yards and another 17 plays garnering, 5 yards for an anemic 47 total halftime real-estate.
Canyon Lake had 5 offensive plays covering 226 yards of prime real-estate and a continuation of more carnage being spread all over the field of play.
Cole Cason started it all off with a 58 yard run===Shayne Moss 49 yard run===Helijah Johnson 73 yard run===Ty Sellers 39 yard run. All 4 of these plays would have scored in a, 1 or 2 below or certainly for a flag football game.
Starting the 2nd Half, Canyon Lake took 2 plays to score when Johnson shook the Bulldogs for a 56 yard rumble in finishing with 97 yards on his two carries.

The Hawks gave up one yard before allowing Burnet to punt 29 yards, which was cashed in, when Chase Anderson kept the CL’s parade going at break-neck speed from 65 yards out. This drive was composed with 4 plays but would have been one after Tyler Balderas was credited with 15 yards before a penalty called back his touchdown run that would have gone 70 yards.
Then a final 2 play drive had ‘Class 6’ River Hand becoming CL’s final touchdown run from 64 yards out and throwing those final Bulldogs all over the field. That had Burnet having to clean-up afterwards with their pooper scoopers!!
“I’m a scorer,” Hand said while doing a High Five. “I just got some blocks by our great offensive line and took off.” On what will be the motif going into next week’s contest with Fredericksburg? “They will need to be ready for the Hawks….we know what’s up!”
Short and to the point. Much like this team has taken this season after that 2nd game loss to Weiss.
Another highlight in this demolition had lineman Quinton Pearn coming through with a PAT and finishing the night 1 for 2 in that category. After the Johnson score in that 2nd half, Pearn would take up a different element in having honors for kicking an extra point.
That was a successful try after his cannon shot reached 10.1 feet in height, clearing the bar, at a high rate of speed.

“I did not know I would be doing that,” Pearn said. “Coach called me over at half and said I would be kicking when we scored…I thought I would botch them all, but there had to be some luck in that.”
You think? On how this team prepares for the Billies? Pearn continued, “After that Weiss loss we started to dial it in and we will just get some more turmoil in that game.”
This fun group of players will be back in action next week on the road in Fredericksburg as these Freshman Hawks look for more buildings that might need to be razed.
