Canyon Lake kept their hopes for a Tri-District Championship alive with a 3 run 7th inning that finished this ‘All hands on deck’ come from behind thriller, 7-6.

                      Keep it up Hawks!!

The Lake is now 7-2 in one run contests this season and in this victory having a little bit of everything mixed in setting the stage for one more regular season finale in Davenport.

Boerne beat Wimberrley, 10-5 at home and that series will conclude at the Texans home base with a Greyhound loss and Hawk win leading to a 3-way tie that would have Saturday’s contests to seed these 3 schools.

Davenport and Fredericksburg would finish tied for that 4th place seed if CL can come out on top on Friday.

Why is that important? Freddie is playing Bandera which would be an all but automatic win while the Wolves would need a win over Canyon Lake for an outright 4th seed or a loss would need one more game with the Billies for a chance to go into the post season. Which team has the better pitching staff will be a common denominator for all schools involved with games on tap this Saturday.

“We found a way to win,” Head Baseball Coach Victor Escamilla said with relief in his voice. “Griff (Williams) played well enough to win but he kept us close enough in this ball game and that was a key in getting this win….we preach to stay focused from that first pitch to the last pitch.”

Keep it up Hawks and Finish strong & Don’t forget to vote in May for runoff.

In this final home regular season affair, The Lake, struck first with a 2 run first frame that had a Chase Anderson score when Ty Sellers singled and then a second run scored on an error.

Jeremy Greene’s strikeout ended that encouraging inning after leaving 2 runners on base but still a decent start.

Davenport’s pitcher Eschief had a towering home run with one out in the second inning and these Wolves were not finished getting two singles and a walk before having two players reach base due to Hawk errors.

This frame could have been worse if not for another opponent testing catcher Chase Anderson’s arm trying to steal 3rd base. That throw out helped CL by taking a runner off the base paths, before a CL 3 base error helping secure 4 runs and a lead for their next 5 innings, 4-2.

Way to Go Hawks & Win on Friday!!

The Hawks scored their next run in the 4th without a hit after Brayden Welch reached for the second time in the game via being hit by a pitch. A Hunter Anderson walk moved Welch into scoring position which came to fruition with two wild pitches that cut the lead to one, 4-3.

Davenport would respond scoring two runs after another Hawk error that started this frame and then two doubles increased their lead to 3 runs, 6-3.

Another lack luster inning by the middle of CL’s batting order using just 10 pitches in amassing 3 outs.

Williams would end his night on the mound with a strike-out that stranded a Wolf on 3rd base. Williams pitch count went past that 100 mark due mostly from those fielding woes that has plagued this year’s team.

CL would start their 6th inning with a strikeout before Welch reached base for his 4th time on this night (2 hbp & 2 walks) and then a single off the bat of Greene that led to Welch scoring on a Hayden Baker sacrifice fly, 6-4.

Way to Go Hawks Beat Davenport!!

Baker had two at bats that proved to be game changers. His earlier walk when Welch scored on a wild pitch was masterful in taking pitcher Eschief for a 10 pitch at bat that helped run his pitch count over 100 later in this contest which would prove Davenports down fall.

“I was just trying to stay comfortable and relaxed at the plate and I was having success seeing the ball,” Baker said like a dozen. “The pressure was just getting to me and then I said holy crap when I was able to help the team getting my bat on the ball for a run…..this was a good team win!”

Canyon Lake’ pitching depth came to the fore front when Sophomore Luke Roskin was called on for the 7th inning and proceeded to strike out the side which helped CL’s fielders (by not having to field a ball on this night) and keeping the game within reach still trailing by two runs, 6-4.

The top of CL’s batting order would welcome the DHS relief pitcher but Chase Anderson would just come out short on a great defensive play for the Wolves’ 2nd baseman Mechler and leaving just 2 outs.

Jeremy Greene with a walk off single to beat the Wolves.

A 4 pitch walk for Hunter Anderson and then Sellers was hit by a pitch that brought up CL’s rbi leader Williams who would single loading the bases.

Tanner Schultz was hit by pitch and was followed with a Welch walk that scored two runs tying the game with the bases still juiced and only one out.

Greene’s 2nd hit in this game scored courtesy runner Senior Reid Simpson for a, celebration at home plate win, and a chance of finishing this year with CL’s best record before playoffs.

“Something that our coaches are preaching all the time is doing those little things we need to do to win one run ballgames,” Greene quoted. “These are mentally tough games and when we have errors we have the ability to pick each other up and that helped in this, ‘all hands on deck win’.”

Recap: Hawk’s relief pitcher 3 up and 3 down on K’s and the Wolves relief pitcher hit two Hawks with a pitch walked two and gave up two singles for a 3 run win.

Bottom of the batting order scratching across 2 runs and the top of the batting order scoring 2 runs in the first and 3 runs scored in that final inning.

Williams keeping the game close without further damage due to misplays and a revitalized pitching for Roskin who’s last two performances have produced a save (Boerne) and win on this night. Three innings of work giving up just one hit and 4 strikeouts against good teams.

Now Canyon Lake will have one more night for the regular season in Davenport that will have 4 results based on the outcome in Wimberley.

1. A Wimbo and CL Win: Tri-Team District Champion with a seeding tournament this Saturday.
2. A Wimbo Loss and CL Win: The Hawks finishing as the 2nd seed.
3. A Wimbo Loss and CL Loss: The Hawks finishing with a 2nd or 3rd seed. TBD
4. A Wimbo Win and CL Loss: The Hawks would be the 3rd seed.

Mark it on your calendars, With a win Canyon Lake will be rooting for the Texans on one of those rare occasions.

Let’s GO HAWKS!!
