        =================================================

Canyon Lake will be on the road for their second week in a row against 5A Boerne Champion and this will be the first meeting between these two schools.

Champion spent their first two weeks splitting with a win in Laredo and losing to Eagle Pass.

The Chargers have played two opposite games and in last week’s battle, it was an offensive display as Eagle Pass & Boerne combined for 985 total yards.

In Champions contest with Laredo United South, it was a more defensive affair combining for 501 total yards.

Turnovers was the main culprit in last week’s loss that had a long pass play turned into a take-a-way fumble return for a touchdown for EP. That 14 point swing resulted in enough points for that 8 point difference.

This is a hard team to predict what will happen as there has not been enough of a sample size with two different two types of offense & defense teams dominating during those two Friday nights.

This will be Champion’s first home date and that will certainly play into their favor while Canyon Lake had their last game with Fredericksburg suspended before the first half came to a close after a lightning delay.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Charger’s passing presently has been their strong suit. With an average of 266 yards per game with a running game right at a 70 yard average.

Senior Kannon Brooks leads the team in receiving followed by Senior Griffin Jones and running back Junior Cole Riha is their third player with the most receiving yardage. Riha has been Champions main running back

B Champion was torched by Eagle Pass giving up 570 yards which was divided with 346 yards on the ground and a respectable 224 yards passing.

For Canyon Lake, that one half in Freddie did show another element for a Hawk offense that will give the opposition a full plate for their defensive coordinator after showing a bona-fide passing element.

There was one series of downs that penalties backed up CL to their own 7 yard line leaving a 3rd down and 22 needed for a first down. A Hunter Anderson pin-pointed pass to Helijah Johnson down the middle of the field went for 23 yards and a first down.

This type of series in the past would have resulted in a punt from the end-zone leaving an opponent with a short field for a score.

                   Make it count Hawks!!

CL’s defense forced two 3 and punt series and then FHS uncorked an 11 play drive that was stopped when Defensive End Ryan Verette recovered a fumble stopping their 49 yard output. Freddie finished with a total of 56 yards and another stout defensive effort during this short but impressive start.

Since giving up two touchdowns on Wimberley’s first two possession, Canyon Lake, has tightened up which will be a key element in this bout on Friday.

The Hawks offense will need to have a more crisp start as the Chargers uncorked their offense to start last week’s game and keeping a this game close should help Canyon Lake to spring an upset.

This week BC will pose a bigger obstacle by the pass and so pressure on defense and a chance for the Hawk’s defensive backs to make their presence known.

Finally, playing a 5A school that does not witness a slot-t offense will be to CL’s advantage but if the BC defensive line can control the line of scrimmage then that might lend to a switch to passing for yardage.

A tough team and a good test to see how Canyon Lake can win big games against big schools on the road.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
