BCS Takes no Prisoners in AHC Blowout, 56-6

Bracken Christian Warriors came out of the blocks while blocking their opponent in a Mercy

Davis Scott and Eli Achilles

Game, beating Austin Hill Country Knights, 56-6 last Friday night in Austin, Texas.

The Knights lost all of their starting offense and all but one defensive starters from last year’s team.

Bracken made them pay for their youth with enough fire power to run away from AHC. This win was the 22nd in a row on the road.

BCS has a lot of new players with different responsibilities and Running Back Davis Scott made his presence known with his first carry going for 13 yards and a score.

Of course, Bracken’s defense did not allow the Knights much in the way of yardage as AHC’s first set of downs netted minus 19 yards.

Next set of downs had an Eli Achilles interception and 40 yard return for another score.

“They had a botched snap and that made the quarterback a pass only situation,” Achilles surmised. “I knew he was going to throw and he only had two options and Preston (Koch) had his guy covered.”

One offensive play and a 12-0 lead would tell you how much Austin Hill Country would want to go get players from last season to come and help out again. TAPPS would have something to say about that and so the route was on.

BCS next drive had four different players with a hand on the drive. This set of downs was also the longest of the day for Bracken.

Receiver Arnold Adame had a four yard reception.
RB Scott had two runs for 11 yards.
FB Preston Koch had a run for three yards.
Achilles had two runs for 28 yards, the final run for six yards and an 18 point lead.

Bracken will certainly miss Graduate Kevin Knapick as their place kicker. BCS was not successful on the first three scores and then relegated their point afters to offensive plays.

BCS scored nine times and only converted on two touchdowns. The Warriors could of had an extra 14 more points if they could get that part of their game in gear.

The Warriors started the second quarter with a Koch one yard run ending a three play drive covering 38 yards.

Bracken’s defense has held the Knights to one first down up to this part of the game. AHC would have minus 16 yards of offense.

Newcomer John Colby was in the AHC backfield countless times wreaking havoc on whoever had the privilege of possessing the ball.

“Colby put the spread back in duress and I was impressed with him,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields interjected. “He’s the type of guy, when you turn the lights on in practice he will be there.”

Old timer, Achilles also had some nice words for Colby, “He is finally figuring out six man, he is just like Austin Wilkinson last year when the light turned on, he has quick feet, he got the angles, and he is having fun.”

“I had a great time and I am in better condition that I thought I’d be,” Colby said stoically. “With a tight offense I would of had more double teams.”

On his thoughts of playing his first game in six man, “Six-man is much faster and there is a lot more running and you have to be faster.”

Bracken did have many traits from last year’s squad. One trait was the amount of plays it took to score.

in the second quarter the Warriors had the following number of plays before scoring:
1. Three plays covering 38 yards.
2. One play covering 34 yards.
3. One play covering 39 yards.
4. Seven plays covering 42 yards.
5. One play covering 34 yards.
6. Three plays covering 42 yards.

Except for the seven play drive, Bracken could of called their on score as Austin Hill Country had no answer for the #1 team in TAPPS Division 1 this season.

Sophomore Coy Zunker continued his amazing season with another interception at the goal line and then a weaving 37 yard run setting up the final touchdown for the good guys.

“Jeremy Fasenmyer impressed me,” Coach Fields said. “From the second quarter on he came along very well.

Next week could be a different situation as Bracken will come home to face Sugar Land Lagos Prep. This team will have some speed and Bracken will have to learn how to adjust and get to two wins for the season.

“We need a great week of practice,” Colby said. “As long as we do that then we will be fine.”

Achilles also had a final summation, “I thought we did good, but we have to get in better shape.”

However, Coaches have a different song, “This will be the fastest team in State, next week…this will be our biggest test since taking on Abilene Christian last year, their All State Relay team are playing on the team.”

“We have to work on our kicking game.”
