Outfield Conference Call (photo by Karen Holmes)
Canyon Lake had a solid game in their win over Burnet as the Hawks manufactured 10 runs in the win as they focus on Navarro this coming Friday.
“We executed well early but we let up a bit and they had some big hits,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We got some players in to see how they would do in the field and with some at-bats.”
The Bulldogs were held to 4 hits but 3 of those safeties happen to sail over the outfield wall. There was some power in that line-up and CL was able to keep the bases clean for the most part with good fielding and 11 hits that answered the Bulldogs 4 run 6th inning with a 3 runner in keeping the game in hand.

In Canyon Lake Soccer, a tie is a win as the the Hawks went on the road and finished with a tied score with Boerne, 1-1 on an early week game.
This tie was the first blemish in district play for the Greyhounds as Canyon Lake continues to blaze a trail not seen in the annals of Hawkdom.

The ReSporter: Wow, what a week for your team. When did you have an idea of what this team might accomplish?
Coach Tierney: “I was excited after last season. I knew coming back this year we had great seniors and a strong junior class, so coming into the season I knew they were capable of accomplishing anything. The first game that stands out would be the one against Marble Falls. We tied them and that began to get us thinking that we could accomplish good things. This has been the toughest schedule we have had and we played a lot of really good teams close, but going forward we have been focusing on elevating ourselves by fighting to beat those quality teams.” Read the rest here »

Repeat-Boutique Says Go Hawks and Repeat Winning
Canyon Lake put up a good fight in their Basketball game with Navarro but just missed out on that last 3point shot for a chance to go to another round.
The Hawks had their best season since they built the school and look to have more years like this one as the Junior Varsity won District 28-4A this year and will look to fill those 8 vacancies from graduating Seniors
Congratulations to these Boys and keep thriving for the best.
Girls Soccer had a huge win this past week against Fredericksburg as they now have cemented themselves into a playoff berth while looking for a better seed with more wins as they will start the second round this Tuesday when Boerne comes to town.
The Boys Soccer team had a tough loss to Fredericksburg on the road losing, 4-3 but will look to rebound when they go on the road to Boerne on Tuesday. The Boys tied Bandera last Tuesday and will continue their best season since they started kicking balls in 2008.
Golf is the next sport that is showing promise as both the Girls and Boys teams won their Meet last week in Sequin. Chance Martelli was medalist with a 77 score as both of these teams will continue their trek when they travel to Vaaler Creek this week for another chance to fill their Trophy Case.
Baseball started their season and came away with one tie to go with 5 losses. A tough start to this season as it will not get any easier as the Comal Tournament will start up this week and Canyon Lake will be host to several teams.
A good time to come out for some good baseball as the schedule above has the Hawk game times.

Lakeside Dog Grooming Says Go Hawks!
Softball finished 2nd for their second time as they repeated that same position as the week before at Navarro.
This crew now stands with a 9-2-1 record as they will welcome two home games this week when Burnet and Navarro come calling. This will be a good week to see how this team will start to jell with games that will not be timed and that in itself will allow the Coaches to see how the Hawks do in longer settings.
Canyon Lake won their 100th game two weeks ago and now will have their sites on getting to .500 ball with a good year.
Volleyball is the only Hawk sport with an overall winning record for team sports.

Go Canyon Lake
Track & Field had some promising times and throws and jumps coming from the Hays Lobo Relays last Saturday.
This week will be a big test as CL will travel to Fredericksburg and have a chance to see how their District 28-4A mates will fare with some one on one competition.
The Billies have always been a large hurdle for the Hawks to clear and this will give a chance of knowing what will need to be done to clear those barriers.
A lot going on, so if you are bored, then come out to the Hawk Nest and see some games!!
Go Hawks!!!

Adia Garcia is one of many Hawk athletes that play more than one sport
The Hawk Girls Track & Field team had another good day with the Junior Varsity staying with Hays finishing 2nd with 182 points. The next school was Lehman with 52 points as the Hays and Hawk girls literally lapped the competition on this day of cinder work.
CL’s Varsity had their best day of the year with a 3rd place finish, scoring 75 points finishing behind Hays and Westwood in the 8 team meet.
“I am proud of our girls and how hard they are working both in practice and at the meets,” Head Coach John Barthels said. “Going against the larger schools has not phased them one bit. They know they are racing the clock each week and are just focusing on getting better.”

Track & Field | Comments Off on Lady Hawk Track & Field Improve with 2nd (JV) and 3rd (Varsity) for Lobo Meet

Caimen McDonough was one of several basketball players ready to jump to new heights for Track
Canyon Lake came out of their blocks in good fashion after their second week of action this time at the Lobo Relays at Hays High School.
Not as many teams at this meet which cleared the field and allowed a much higher point total for both the JV and Varsity teams.
The JV Boys finished 2nd for the second straight week behind Hays and with 36 more points to boot leaving CL one point better than San Marcos.
Canyon Lake had some points from those distance events. Matt Bell finished 1st and 2nd in the 1600 & 800 running events. Bell’s mile run was 7 seconds better than his run at the Hawk Relays. The 1600 run was the 4th best in Hawk history and improving 4 more seconds will have his name below that 5 minute barrier.

Canyon Lake’s Lady Soccer team had their best regular season win on Friday night when the Hawk’s beat Fredericksburg, 1-0 for their second district win in a row.
The last time CL had a two game winning streak for district contests was back during the 2010 season. That Hawk team finished their district slate with an 8-5-1 record.
This win over the Billies was the 2nd time in 11 games, the last time CL won this match-up was during the 2014 season when the Hawks won, 3-0.
