The Hawk Ladies beat up on the Badgers this past Tuesday with a 10 point victory improving their record to 5-4 for this young season winning, 48-38.

Go Hawks
“This was a good win for us,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “Lampasas is a tough place to play and to be able to come out with a win is good.”
Alexa Ramos was everywhere as this ever-ready battery lady was non-stop scoring 16 points with 7 steals and dishing out 4 assists.
“Alexa Ramos had a real good night slashing to the basket,” Head Coach Zach Burleson surmised. “It was her best as far at that goes.”
Not a bad days work as Ramos would harness 7 rebounds to finish out her effort in Badger country.

Canyon Lake took one on the chin from Somerset as the Bulldog’s bite was bigger than their bark in this loss, 63-45.
“It was a learning experience,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said while trying to shed some positive vibes into this evening’s game. “We did have some players that had good individual effort.”
The game started as if CL would make a statement as the Hawks fought back from an early 5 point deficit to an, 18-15 lead as Ryner Martin sank a 3 pointer as time ran out in that first stanza.
This contest continued to be nip and tuck in the second quarter as Canyon Lake started slow but worked back into the game trailing by 6 points going into halftime.

Young Life says Go Hawks
Canyon Lake has now been immersed with the Basketball Season as football and volleyball teams have been eliminated in tournament play and that immersion can also be seen with some swimming in this week’s schedule.
This has been a part of the season that would usually not hold out for a lot of exciting times around the area but both Girls and Boys Basketball teams have already shown that this might be a good year for giving these athletes a perusal as in previous seasons.

CL Freshman basketball team finally broke the dam scoring 15 points in the 4th quarter in beating Llano, 33-16.
“We did not play well and played down to our competition,” Head Freshman Coach Javier Almanza recalled. “But our good defense helped us win this game.”
Scoring points was not an easy task with this 11am start before a Thanksgiving break but Canyon Lake would finally finish their task with a win.
Shooting just one for 13 in the first quarter started what would be a trip to the dentist office in getting some teeth pulled.
The basketball was too large for the basket for much of this game as CL had a 25% shooting percentage in the first half that had Llano with a one point advantage, 13-12.
In the first quarter, Canyon Lake scored their first goal with half the quarter already spent and that basket would be the first for the game. Benjamin Rowe found Nicolas Rivera cutting to the basket for that first tooth being pulled.
This dentist patient still had most of his teeth as scoring was not an easy thing to accomplish in this contest.

Parker Mott and Charlie McIntosh ready to run their offense in win over Llano (photo by Karen Holmes)
Canyon Lake made turkey out of Yellowjackets in feast over Llano, 72-35 at the Hawk Nest on Tuesday.
The Hawks had an early game scheduled as the students had been released for Thanksgiving Holidays and CL released some major hurt on Llano as the first quarter 17 point advantage would only be increased during the next 3 quarters as the offense and defense played sharp games.
“We executed well,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman started. “This game scared me because we were playing in the morning and it was right before a holiday.”
Many times a coach has no idea of how their team will perform when you have so many distractions like mentioned above.

Junior Reagan Heun scores 27 points in win over Somerset
Canyon Lake came out of their tough week-end tournament and dominated Somerset Bulldogs with a convincing 14 point advantage in the 3rd quarter in coasting to even their record winning, 50-37.
Regan Heun scored 27 points in this contest as the Hawks needed to run their air conditioner on the bus on the ride home to help cool off the team.
There is something about Somerset that has Reagan’s Sun Rising as she scored 26 points during her freshman year and now has an all time scoring high by one point.

Canyon Lake Girl’s Basketball went into the tall trees this past week as they participated in the San Antonio ISD Basketball Tournament.
Those tall trees came in the form of 5A and 6A schools and the Hawks had a 1-3 showing for this 3 day event.
The SAISD tourney started with a top 5 ranked El Paso Burges team that beat CL, 61-37 on Thursday.
Head Coach Zach Burleson was optimistic after the 4 game experience, “If we play like we are capable, then we can play with anybody.”
The games showed some inconsistencies, but in playing larger classification schools you will certainly be helped as this season progresses.

Noah Gray has 7 steals in win over Fox Tech
Canyon Lake’s JV unleashed an avalanche of athletes on the Buffaloes as their home debut was successful, 54-29.
“We got after them which gave us a lot of second chance opportunities,” Head JV Coach Brian Hooper said. “We have a lot of players and depth.”
The Hawks JV squad held the Buffaloes less than 10 points for each quarter as their lead grew with pressure and a good all around game.
With 16 steals, CLJV, opened up their offense by a great defense as Fox Tech could never find the room to have offensive power.
Canyon Lake controlled the boards to the tune of 58 rebounds and 30 of those bounds came on the offensive side of the court.
