Canyon Lake intrasquad Scrimmage
Quarterback Branson Belcher has won more games than any other quarterback in the history of Canyon Lake Football.
His eight wins last year put him ahead of Ross Wagliardo and Jeff Nabors who won seven and six games respectively in the previous three years.
Now the Hawks prepare for a break out year that hopefully will include that hidden word called, ‘Playoffs’.
The 8-2 season last year was great, but not having a game after the tenth game, left an emptiness for the team and fans.
Senior Quarterback Belcher will now take ownership of a team that has the possibility of eclipsing the eight wins from last year.

While watching the Alumni/Canyon Lake volleyball game, you would

Head Coach Nicole Creek
of been amazed the Alumni won a game.
A simple fact about this event, Canyon Lake Varsity won for the first time against their former teammates. Was this a bad day for the former students or was CL Varsity just playing a better game?
A lot of players return with a sprinkling of newbies might have a team that will rival the playoff teams in recent years.
Katie Williams is one of those Seniors that will want a better result than what happened to last year’s club.

Warriors taking break from Practice
Bracken Christian will have a five game district schedule this year and a game of musical chairs has bumped Marble Falls Faith out and Geneva School of Boerne taking their place.
The Flames from Marble Falls made the playoffs the last two seasons, but got no further than the second round, while Boerne Geneva lost in the first round to Brownwood Victory Life 70-44, last season during their 8-3 season.
“The top two teams in district will meet in week one,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields commented. “Boerne Geneva has everyone coming back.”
That will be a common theme this season for some of the schools, or they might have lost a player that had that do everything persona.
Geneva faced two teams that had the opportunity in playing BCS. They finished 1-1 with a loss coming from Kerrville OLH 54-50 and a win against New Braunfels Christian 52-7.

Defensive Back and Kicker Jake Robinson
Canyon Lake had the right man for the job last year when kicking was part of the defensive Back and Kicker Jake Robinson game. Jake Robinson only missed two extra points last season while kicking two field goals for a team that averaged five touchdowns per game.
The offense ran at a high octane level last season and if they have a repeat, then you can count on the extra point to be good.
Robinson was successful on 45 out of 47 tries and those numbers with the two field goals, had Jake with 51 points.
That has this young man in fourth place for career scoring and with another year like 2011 season, Robinson could end his career in second place in points scored for the Hawks.

Sam Hilgendorf returns with more holding on the season
What we do know? BCS has had a great run the past three years which encompassed a State Championship and two final four appearances.
A case can be made that the Warriors were the second best team in both of those losses in the semis, as they played the eventual Champion in both cases and played them much closer than the other bracket winner.
Now The ReSporter would like to look into the crystal ball and see what this year’s edition might do in a two part series breaking down the schedule with non-district games first and then see what the district might have in store this year.
When Bracken took their Summer vacation last May, the district had six games which was the largest in Division 1.

There is a common phrase for lineman and Coaches used all the time when they are

Weston Dicks, Luke Saenz, Cory Rustin, Trey Saenz, and Trevor Duty focus in on new season
dominating during any particular game.
‘Pancake Block’
The phrase is used to indicate that a lineman has the upper hand on their opponent and performed such a block that the other player was put flat on the field or ‘Pancaked’.
Another thing that is a given when these players end up at IHOP…they will not be using diet syrup.
Weston Dicks (6’4 and 305 lbs) is returning for another year hoping to get in all the games this season.
Dicks is another player that missed three games last year and is wanting to go out with a mouth full of pancakes.
Travis Walker will be one of the many injured Hawks from last years team hoping to put a

Senior Linebacker Travis Walker
full year on the football field this season.
Canyon Lake had many of their players out during last year’s campaign and the depth allowed the Hawks to finish with an 8-2 record.
This season Walker is looking to complete the year, which has not been easy for this player that was moved up for his Sophomore year, but still has not been able to play in every game.
“I hope not,” Walker stated when asked if he thought the injury bug might bite him again this year.
The Linebacker core could be one of the strengths for Canyon Lake, but it has also been one of the most injured positions, especially last season.
Isaac Pruna had injury problems before the season even started and McGuire Johnson did not miss any games, but after the season ended, he also had to go under the knife coming from an injury during the season.
The Hawks have had a bad taste in their mouths for about eight months after the bitter

Head Coach Charley Drum
sweet 2011 season.
Eight wins is something that will give any team the motivation to continue and improve upon.
Last season also had a millstone hanging around the teams neck after finishing with those eight wins and no chance to continue into the playoffs.
That will certainly give you a bad taste in your mouth and a “I can’t wait to get back on the field” feeling.
Now Canyon Lake will also have a new Head Coach with Charley Drum taking the reigns from Matt Monzingo who is enjoying his drive to New Braunfels each day with a job description for all the sports in Comal ISD.

Head Coach Lloyd Fields
BCS will start another season in less than a month and a case can be made that this team can be a serious contender for another crown.
In the past three years the Warriors have finished in the final four and came home with the whole enchilada two years ago.
Now this seven year old program already has a reputation of winning.
Since the first year of salvaging just one win, Bracken Christian has not won less than nine games in the previous five years.
A winning percentage of .855 will do that for a team after you take away that first year of learning.

The ReSporter would like to finish this year’s sports campaign by

Senior Missy Romero
recognizing three Seniors that were covered by this website.
Last Thursday night, Canyon Lake Coaches announced their winners at a Banquet for the Track, Baseball, Golf, and Softball teams during the spring awards night.
Missy Romero, Matt Magness, and Zach Henshaw were the three students recognized by their Coaches as Seniors that were the outstanding athlete for this academic year.
Missy Romero literally kept the Softball program in the circle the past four years.
Softball was one of the last team sports to make the playoffs last season, when they not only qualified for the playoffs, but was the first team to ever finish second in District competition.
Romero has set the standard for CL Softball for years to come, as she signed on with Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi before the season was in full gear.
