Baseball: Hawk’s Season with Coach Victor Escamilla & All-Time Top 10

Hawks finish their season with a loss to Uvalde in a one game Area Round contest, 13-4.

The Lake led through the 5th inning but was soundly beaten, 11-1 in those last two frames that had multiple walks and errors contributing to that final score.

Overall a good season that ended with 19 wins with a relatively young team that had just 3 seniors with two starters.

Coach Escamilla: “Any loss is disappointing….we didn’t capitalize during the first part of the game and left the bases loaded and did not get any timely hits.”  (Lake left 12 on base)

The ReSporter: Give us your thoughts on your 3 Seniors.

Coach Escamilla: “We appreciated their leadership and how they worked everyday and they were focused even tho there are so many distractions during this time of year for seniors. They focused and never took off and gave it their all.”

The ReSporter: What do you do now in preparation for next year?

Coach Escamilla:We really don’t have contact with them until January as several player play football….which is okay because that keeps them in shape and competition keeps them sharp. A big part of sports is Summer ball and that is where they will gain and and get an advantage with competition….They know the expectations we have.”

The ReSporter: What will be your emphasis for next season?

Coach Escamilla:Consistency especially with our pitching. We need to strengthen pitching and be consistent on the mound…that will be our key for success.”

Canyon Lake had both sub-varsity squads finish with winning records and Mountain Valley Middle School is playing right now and with 17 players on last night’s roster returning will allow a good nucleus or starting point for next year’s team.

Senior Day next season will be longer than the game with 17 presently that will be going into their senior year.

Thanks for a Great Season & Way to GO LAKE!

HAWKS 2025 TRACK & FIIELD 26-4A DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

                    Let’s Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter was able to get thoughts from Head Coach Sami Theurer on this just completed track season after having several events during State Meet last week.

This was a banner season with a strong group of incoming freshman added with a well rounded older group of tracksters. This led to CL’s first district championship for the Girls which now matches the Boy’s team from that 2017 season.

There was several Personal Bests posted this season after scoring in two of their State Meet Events with the 4×100 relay and Aubrey Avey finishing 5th in her 300 meter hurdle event.

Below has the personal best pertaining to the All-Time Top 10 Athletes and who is next best in those previous seasons.

Then The ReSporter’s Coaches Corner with Coach Theurer. Enjoy and Way to GO FAST LAKE!

COACHES CORNER

                           Let’s Go Lake!

The ReSporter:  Overall thoughts for this season?

Coach Theurer: “I am uber proud of how hard the girls worked and came together as a team to succeed. They pushed each other everyday at practice and held each other accountable.”

The ReSporter:  How bout a shout out for your Seniors?

Be Authentic with your Hawk Gear & LET’s GO LAKE!

Coach Theurer: “Emorie Jones, Ayren Lightfoot and Hannah Hammer all will be missed, and all in different ways. Emorie is continuing her education and attending Ole Miss. Ayren plans to attend LSU and will walk-on their track team hoping to run for their program as a freshman. She has been on varsity all four years and made it to the state meet every year, either as part of a relay or in the open 400m. Hannah Hammer has been on the varsity team all four years and has been a leader for our Hawk team. She has been to the state meet three years, also on her own and as part of a relay team. She plans to attend school in Arizona to continue her education. Hannah does want to continue her running career as a college athlete.”

             Way to Go FAST Hawks!!

The ReSporter: What will the returning girls be doing to fine tune their craft?

Coach Theurer: “I think it goes without saying…we need to get faster and stronger. Our girls need to be able to compete in field events and then have the stamina and strength to compete and win in the running events as well.”

The ReSporter: Is there any way of improving the discus/shot events to help in adding points in Meets?

Coach Theurer: “Our goal for next season is to have a fully staffed track team, which would include one or two throwing coaches. I think this would make a huge difference. They will be able to recruit some of our athletes and put together a true training program so that our throwers can improve.”

                           Let’s Go Lake!

The ReSporter: You had a lot of Freshman that contributed in major ways.

Coach Theurer: “Not only did the freshmen class contribute on the varsity team, our JV team excelled. This freshmen class of girls is talented and they love to win.”

The ReSporter: What are your plans for this group in keeping them engaged thru the offseason?

Coach Theurer: “I always tell the kids, you have to learn to love the grind if you want to win. Almost all of them play or compete in another sport, so getting them and keeping them in our athletic period during our season is always the goal.”

                                GO LAKE!

The ReSporter: What do you know bout MVMS athletes who will be incoming Freshman?

Coach Theurer: “I have been told that next years incoming freshmen are very athletic and super competitive. Both great qualities to have for all our programs. Looking forward to what they can do and how much they can push our upper classmen.”

The ReSporter: Final thoughts?

 ‘Hawk’ Proud!

Coach Theurer: “This season really pushed our team to stay focused and to continue to train. The State Meet was a huge challenge for the girls (to keep showing up and trying to get better to be consistent on training. And then there is the realization that everyone at the State Meet is fast and strong. We need to train harder and smarter.”

CL Lady Hawks Track & Field-State Meet

Wednesday, May 10th, 2023

Alencia Lentz, Coby Mickey & Shana Curter were points for this year’s Hawk Track Teams.

The ReSporter: Give me your thoughts on your Senior Ladies that participated this year.

Coach Theurer: “All the seniors (McKenzie Ortez, Claire Schroeder, Alencia Lentz, Taylor Givens, Kyley Givens and Maddie Oberholtzer) contributed in huge ways this season.  McKenzie with her fantastic starts out of the blocks in our 4x100m and 4x200m relays or running whatever the team needed her to run.  Maddie running in 4x100m and 4x400m relays in multiple positions and also in long jump.  Claire in the 300 H and her stepping up in the 4x100m relay team that set the new school record and running in the 4×400 relay during Texas Relays.  Alencia is an amazing athlete running in all three relays which set all new school records and then making it to state in PV to hopefully claim the title again.  The Givens twins have ran JV all four years at CL, but have contributed to the 4x100m and 4x200m relays all four years.  The seniors really do a great job leading and bringing the girls together.  Setting the example as far as expectations and representing the CL community.” (more…)
