Hawks Win Alpha-Omega Game against Giddings

Mountain Valley 8th Grade was able to split their game Giddings for the opening day of this year’s football season.

The Hawk ‘B’ squad had an alpha/omega game as Mountain Valley was able to score the first and last touchdown to salvage this contest, 14-06.

That first touchdown for MV would be their first drive covering 41 yards when Jake Peters crossed the goal line on a one yard run.

The drive was helped when Devyn Placeres was able to get around the edge for a 28 yard jaunt and setting up the Hawks with a first and goal from the 3 yard line. Two plays later, Peters was crossing the line for the first score of this year.

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity scoots to 3-0 record after scoring 32 unanswered points and leaving Giddings with a, 38-20 win.

The Hawks had some engine trouble in starting this game but once that motor was cleaned, Canyon Lake was unstoppable. Giddings was outrunning the flying Hawks 20-06 before the CL figured out they could outfly a running Buffalo.

Rolando Maronge had an interception (or hand off from the Buffalo receiver) while Giddings was holding onto a, 20-18 lead to start the second half. Maronge’s runback was finally stopped on the Hawk’s 7 yard line and new life to start this second half.

Bracken Warriors Scores Big Win over Nueces Canyon, 86-41

Monday, September 5th, 2016

Bracken Christian out lasted Nueces Canyon by scoring 22 unanswered points in the 4th quarter in win, 86-41.

“At the start of the game it was drizzling so the ball was kind of slippery for both teams which led to a few fumbles,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said. “Defensively, I think we did enough to stay in the game but my safeties were trying to give me a heart attack whenever they threw the ball deep.”

The game did start sloppy as both teams were having trouble holding onto the ball as the first series for Nueces Canyon was a fumble and the Warriors scored first with a Presley Day scored from 7 yards out.

Kicking 9 out of 10 bonus points had the Bracken faithful thinking what this might mean for future games as Paul Nakalanga had the first try blocked but was perfect for the remainder of this contest.

Canyon Lake controlled the 2nd quarter in their win over Austin Reagan at the Hawk Nest, 42-16.

The Hawks allowed the Raiders just one offensive play in that 2nd stanza and the play turned out to be an interception as CL scored 21 points and retaking the lead for good.

Reagan was very business like in working a 10-7 lead after a 27 yard field goal with 1:30 left in the quarter.

That field goal drive was the Raiders second longest on this night as they controlled this drive with 14 plays while moving the ball 60 yards. Canyon Lake helped Reagan with several penalties on this drive.

“We let them off the hook and if we do that in the next few weeks then that is how we can get beat,” Head Coach Charlie Drum said in response to all the flags thrown to the ground. “A win is a win, but a sloppy game and dumb penalties will need to be corrected.”

Canyon Lake’s JV squad played an efficient game against Austin Reagan as the depth of the Hawks was just too much for the speedy Raiders to keep up with in the, 38-06 win.

The Hawks started their scoring after a failed 4th down play by Austin Reagan. The Raiders only needed 2 yards at the midfield stripe but the CL’s defense not only held but a slew of Green and Gold stopped the Raiders for a 2 yard loss and loss of downs.

CL then responded on their 2nd drive needing just 3 plays for the score. Reagan had negated the first two running plays so Canyon Lake resorted to a pass to open up those clogged running lanes.

QB Jacob Neel had a wide open Connor Rose for a catch and run of 48 yards and the first score of the evening.

The Hawk Freshman jumped out to a 26 point lead and held their own during the second half in win over Austin Reagan at Noack Field, 26-12.

A hefty dose of Cody Daily to start this game, as he rumbled around end on several carries to amass 120 yards on 7 carries before the first half ended.

Daily had 45 yards rushing on his first two touchdown runs to start the game as Canyon Lake was dominant during the first half.

The Volleyball Sub-Varsity Teams did their patented sweep again as there was no prisoners taken as both the JV and Freshman
took care of their matches in short order.

That was a good thing as the crowd would not know the Varsity would inject some drama with their match by going 5 games later that evening.

The Hawk Freshman team was first, winning with a methodical, 25-14 and 25-08 score.

CL Hawks Dig out of a Hole in Win over Marion, 3-2

Faith Hasness is tops with 20 kills in win over Marion

Faith Hasness is tops with 20 kills in win over Marion

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team had a scare on Tuesday night with the Marion Bulldogs pulling off a 5 game set in winning 3-2.

The Hawks (16-8) ran out to a comfortable first set win, 25-11 but that pillow lost it’s softness as Marion started playing better and
causing CL to start sleeping on rocks.

Digging holes is another analogy that works since the Hawks were fighting from behind for most of the night.

CL’s largest lead in that first set ballooned up to 12 points a couple of times before the Hawks put the Bulldogs away, 25-11.

The largest lead in the second set happened near the end when Marion methodically played with resolve to a 5 point lead, 22-17 leaving CL in desperation mode.

Bracken’s Sleep Walk becomes Run in Win over Bastrop Tribe, 36-14

Go Warriors

                                                                                      Go Warriors

Bracken Christian started their next decade of games with a win over Bastrop Tribe Consolidated, 36-14 on the road Friday night. It was Bracken’s 8th opening day win.

Bastrop took their opening drive 60 yards on just 4 plays with a 38 yard pass and run right off the bat.

That jolt would wake up whatever hangover this team had from their scrimmages in a hurry.

“I think what happened at the beginning of the game was they (Bastrop) had some big guys that look like grown man,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said manly. “They had muscle shirts in pregame than had muscles to go with their shirt.”

That might have been the reason the Bracken Warriors scored their first touchdown in the 2nd Quarter as their sleep walking or playing bigger players seemed to finally wear off.

Canyon Lake continued their Non-Stop Volleyball games on Saturday as they participated in the Rattler Tournament in San Marcos.

The Hawks finished the day sweeping their three opponents and now prepare for best of 3 matches from here on out for this season.

CL will be starting their District 28-4A games a month from today and taking inventory and taking care of the little things become a focus for the Hawks as they prepare to build on their District Championship and see if they can add an (s) to that word.

After suffering 2 losses on Thursday in the Pool play, Canyon Lake, was placed in the Bronze Bracket and was certainly the best of this group of schools.

Poteet, San Marcos, and El Paso Andress were in the path of a team wanting to make a statement as this season progresses.
