Go Hawks & Go Fast!
Canyon Lake had a tune-up Track Meet in Wimberley this past Thursday and finished in second place after posting 167 points.
The Lake scored 35 points in the Sprints, 20 for the hurdles, 38 on the distance events and finished with 44 points scored in the relays.
Counting the Girls JV those distance events totaled 58 points showing the strength for those students taking parti in those longer runs.
Counting both Varsity & Junior Varsity, The Lake had 23 different ladies scoring points that had Sophomore Savanna Olberholtzer (28 pts/5 events) leading the Varsity and Jazlyn Kearney (18 points/3 events) just topping Haley Petty (17 points/3 events) and Zoe O’Neal (17 points/3 events.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
O’Neal was the only JV Athlete to finish 1st when she ran a 2:44.42 her 800 meter run.
Caiden Ocanas (10 points) was the other JV Athlete who finished with double figures.
The Lake’s Varsity totaled a first place in 8 events and two athletes (Cadence Patterson and Ayren Lightfoot) were standing on that first place podium in 3 events a piece.
Future University of Houston athlete, Patterson is taking those long distance runs to task as she is now leading the CL All-Time charts in the following.
TOP FIVE 800 Meter Run 1600 Meter Run 3200 Meter Run *Cadence Patterson 2:18.75 *Cadence Patterson 5:02.64 *Cadence Patterson 10:52.11 *Hannah Hammer 2:21.03 *Eva Zabarcenco 5:46.30 *Eva Zabarcenco 12:13.50 *Aubrey Avey 2:26.65 Kaitlyn Yuill 5:51.57 Mariah Ellis 12:45.43 Hannah Graves 2:27.78 Hannah Graves 5:59.10 Kaitlyn Yuill 12:47.05 Mariah Ellis 2:27.91 Olivia Flores 6:05.22 *Avery Hime 13:39.97 *Indicates Present Runners
Freshman Eva Zabarcencu is one of many Lady Hawks breaking the tape at Track Meets this season.
CLake’s mile relay was just off, .59 of a second from taking over last year’s foursome that qualified for State last season. Three in last year’s group returned and Patterson replaced Alencia Lentz who finished 1st Place in this year’s Big 12 Indoor Track Meet for the Baylor Bears in her pole vault specialty.
Avey (300 Meter Hurdles) and Lightfoot (200 & 400 Meter Dash) have now lowered CL’s All-Time marks in those categories.
So many Lady Hawks that continue to have personal bests (pr’s) with each week blazing a new trail on CL’s All-Time lists.
The key will see if these results continue to improve thus showing there are still more records as a possibility as District-Area-Region Meets results in having more entries at this year’s State Meet in Austin.

Canyon Lake will send several athletes to this week’s Texas Relays in Austin and will be in Comfort this Wednesday for a practice meet.
Distriict 27-4A Meet will be held at Wimberley on April 3-4 to give the local Hawk Nation two close venues to catch some great athletes.
Let’s Go FAST Hawks!!
Mya Vorhis waiting for her baton exchange in last week’s Hawk Relays! Way to Go Fast Hawks!
Canyon Lake’s Track Teams hosted the Hawk Relays this past Thursday and the Ladies finished 3rd overall against another week of strong programs.
This year’s Lady Track & Field has a chance to make an attack on those All-Time Records this season after a strong showing against 5A-6A schools at the Comal ISD Relays earlier this week.
Alencia Lentz culmination to her remarkable High School Career!!
The Hawk Lady Track team sent two athletes to the State Meet and recorded 12 points which is the most points scored by either (Boys or Girls) up to this point of The Lake’s history.
Alencia Lentz, Coby Mickey & Shana Curter were points for this year’s Hawk Track Teams.
The ReSporter: Give me your thoughts on your Senior Ladies that participated this year.
Coach Theurer: “All the seniors (McKenzie Ortez, Claire Schroeder, Alencia Lentz, Taylor Givens, Kyley Givens and Maddie Oberholtzer) contributed in huge ways this season. McKenzie with her fantastic starts out of the blocks in our 4x100m and 4x200m relays or running whatever the team needed her to run. Maddie running in 4x100m and 4x400m relays in multiple positions and also in long jump. Claire in the 300 H and her stepping up in the 4x100m relay team that set the new school record and running in the 4×400 relay during Texas Relays. Alencia is an amazing athlete running in all three relays which set all new school records and then making it to state in PV to hopefully claim the title again. The Givens twins have ran JV all four years at CL, but have contributed to the 4x100m and 4x200m relays all four years. The seniors really do a great job leading and bringing the girls together. Setting the example as far as expectations and representing the CL community.” (more…)

The top 4 in each varsity event will continue their post-season in an area meet.
Overall, Canyon Lake had the Boys JV with a 3rd place finish scoring 111 points.
For this year’s Varsity, wasn’t a stellar finish in garnering 30 points while just beating out Bandera’s 25 points who finished last.
Let’s Go FAST Hawks!!
Layton Hemann was a class act with his 10:31.51 time in the 3200 METER RUN or 40 seconds better than the 2nd place finisher. Hemann was 5 seconds off from his best time this season. That can happen in distance races when a participant is not being pushed by others runners.
Varsity Boys had Alek Villacencio with his personal best, 10:30.65 for a 5th place result. District 27-4A had a plethora of distance runners as Alek finished in 6th place but was still able to time a best ever 1600 meter run beating Hemann’s record set earlier this year by right at 4 seconds, 4:45.83.
Tristan Schenk was able to break that 5 minute barrier which placed has Schenk the 9th best on the All-Time list. Canyon Lake now has all top-ten runners with sub-five minutes for the mile event.

The Hawks Boys qualified two athletes for the Area Meet as Coby Mickey won the Pole Vault event with a 14 foot vault and will now attempt to make the State Meet for the second year in a row.
