Bracken Christian Track Team Aims to Run

Not to take anything away from Senior Kevin Knapick, but Bracken Christian will be concentrating more on the Track than the Field part at the State Meet starting this Friday and Saturday in Waco.

Bracken will be competing in the 2A Division and the top four finishers qualified for the right to represent their school before the school year closes.

BCS will have 12 students vying for the chance to bring home more hardware from this track season.

Katy Wilmotte finished first in the 3200 Meter Run at the Regional Meet. Her second place finish in the 1600 Meter Run will also allow her to garner more points for the Team.

Wilmotte finished with a time of 13:09 last year competing as a Sophomore at the State Meet and she qualified two weeks ago with a best time of 12:53 for this season.

The good news is that the 3200 and 1600 Meter Runs will be run on two different days giving those runners time to recoup from that draining race.

“Katy finished third at State last year,” Head Coach Terri Sanders started. “She knows what she is capable of doing and with the right stride and with her confidence will allow her to finish strong.”

Jordan Anderson Takes First in 400 Meter Run

Jordan Anderson Takes First in 400 Meter Run

Marisa Ellis and Jordan Anderson will both be busy the next two weeks. As the Sports scene for the 2011-12 season for Canyon Lake draws to a close these two athletes will be showcasing their talents in Austin.

Marisa Ellis had her personal best jump when she cleared the 37 foot barrier by four and a half inches and in so doing will be one of the favorites in the Triple Jump.

Ellis will be one of six other athletes that has jumped past the 37 foot barrier at the State Meet in two weeks.

Last week in our conversation with the Junior Jumper, her main goal was to get past a standard that had been hard to get over. Now that she has broken that distance more goals loom in competing against eight other triple jumpers from around the State.

Region Track Meet is All About the Second Day

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Canyon Lake athletes are new with many of the, ‘We have never been this far

Freshman Mariah Ellis in 4x400 Relay

before,’ scenarios.

This week the Boy and Girl Hawk Track Teams will be competing against the best schools in Region IV, which is comprised of eight districts.

Two weeks ago each athlete that finished in the top three of any event punched their ticket to compete in the Region Meet that is being held at Corpus Christi this Friday and Saturday.

To advance to Austin for the State Meet these athletes will have to be in the top two in order to have a chance to run or throw or jump again.

The ReSporter has documented where Canyon Lake’s finishes have compared to their competitors. (you can find that below in our graph)

Last year Canyon Lake Girls Track Team had Jessica Cunningham make it to State in the Pole Vault. Cunningham also finished in fifth place scoring two points for Canyon Lake and breaking the ice for hopefully more Hawk athletes.

Cunningham has taken her Pole Vault Event and is now jumping for Stephen F. Austin.

The boys have not had a chance to go to State since they are still waiting to qualify but now they are in the qualify for the Second Day mode.

Track: Marisa Ellis Really Wants to get to 37 Feet!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Junior Trackster Marisa Ellis is taking her jumping skills to Corpus Christi this

weekend in hopes of having her next stop in Austin.

Ellis is trying to do two things actually at this Region Meet. She wants to make it to Austin, but more importantly she wants to beat her best jump (which was performed as a Freshman) of 36’ 11.5”.

That jump two years ago allowed Ellis to go to a Region Meet as a freshman in the 4A Classification representing Midlothian.

Pretty big shoes to live up to….her sophomore year she only got to 36’8” and this year she jumped 36’10” at the District 26-3A Meet.

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Canyon Lake will be well represented in Corpus Christi for the Regional Meet in two

weeks as the Hawks finished in second place for the last two years.

The top two finishers get another chance to reach Austin for State Track Meet in May.

Jordan Anderson was high point for the Meet with 48 points, missing a first place in the Long Jump by 0.25 of an inch.

The 48 points beat Bandera’s entire team and was only 21 points off of beating Wimberley.

Anderson will now be in the ‘running’ with five events in the Regional meet with a chance of finishing second or better in any event which would give him another week of competing in Austin.

Canyon Lake was also able to send all three Relay Teams to the next level as the usually strong Mile Relay team having to huff and puff to finish third to run for another day.

Fredericksburg has been the team to beat, but this might be the closest the other schools have been to the Billies in quite a while.

Relays are the next and last set of events to be diagnosed for this season.

The ReSporter hopes you have enjoyed these ‘Breakdowns’.

Canyon Lake Boy’s Track Breakdown: Relays

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

The Hawks have a good group of guys running the relays. Pretty simple synopsis…

Zach Henshaw first Leg of 4x100 Relay

Zach Henshaw first Leg of 4x100 Relay

Canyon Lake beat there all-time best in all three relays at the Tiger Relays in Dripping Springs over a week ago.

The Mile Relay was brought down enough to give this foursome a chance to make State.

Both of the other two relays might need some good hand offs to maximize a time that would have a chance to make the next level.

Canyon Lake won all three events last season and this foursome has been together all year and have a good balance and work well together.

Eduardo Covarrubias, Doug Hubnik, Daniel Camarillo, and Zach Henshaw look to be peeking right at a good time to bring home some medals.

Below is the run down for the Relays as well as the projected finish of this year’s District 26-3A Meet.
