CL Hawks Finish Season but Hope Springs Eternal & Top Five
Canyon Lake went to battle again in their last game of this season with a loss to a tough Navarro squad, 14-6.

It was Senior Night on this wet night for two Hawks giving fans a chance to say good-bye, yet looking at this lineup you also have a ton of youngsters.
Brianna Young and Emma Broussard both helped plug some key holes, but being a freshman or sophomore against older clubs just did not translate to victories in District 27-3A.
“Considering the conditions with rain, we did not give up,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We hit this pitcher a lot better this time and our players played their heart out for the seniors and everybody else.”
Navarro started with three runs to start this affair, giving CL a glimpse of what they would have to do to win this game.
Canyon Lake had scored more runs this season than any other Hawk team and this would be a game where scoring would be needed in mass.

The Hawks responded with two runs by what would be a record night for Alexis Robinson when she hit a 2-run homer over in the power alley in right field.
“She (Robinson) was determined to get a hit and she has become a good hitter,” Coach Gallagher surmised.
Wait, it gets better for Robinson. Her next at bat she had a seeing eye single driving in another run.
Wait, Wait, it gets better for Robinson with a double on her next at bat driving in another run as she ended up on third base after knocking the ball loose from a Panther third baseman on her slide.
Robinson was sent by Coach Gallagher on that hit which could of been a mistake based on how fast the ball got to third base.
“Coach gave me the Go,” Robinson said with cat like speed.
Wait, Wait, Wait, it gets better….Robinson hit another rocket for a bonafide triple on her last at bat becoming the first player to hit for the cycle, (single, double, triple, and home run), in a game.
“Cycle? What is a cycle,” Robinson asked Coach Gallagher while recalling her reaction after hearing on the PA, that she had accomplished this achievement. “Oh gosh, this was so much fun and I wanted to go out with a good game.”
That was a remarkable feat as that is one of the hardest stats to accomplish in softball or baseball, so yes, that was a good game.
Those hits helped Robinson finish this year with some pretty impressive numbers.
Robinson’s 2 year career is not half bad either.

That stat line is sick for a sophomore and is a career full of numbers for most players.
Robinson improved her power and her on base percentage was impressive with 24 walks, compared to only 7 walks as a freshman.

Walks will be that one stat going unnoticed, but increasing those free passes by 17 more than the year before, says disciplined batter and one that knows exactly what she is looking for when coming to bat.
Canyon Lake would stay close until Navarro took control in the 6th inning scoring 5 runs and all but turning the lights out for this season.
Carly Dubois also ended her freshman year with a lot of momentum with a sparkling batting average of .402 and led the team with 39 hits and 19 steals as well.
Only 7 strikeouts is a great mark for a freshman, setting a very low mark for future Hawks to reach in years to come.
By just multiplying her numbers by four will give you an idea that several marks will have her name on them when she finishes her last year as a Hawk.
Canyon Lake did not have a great district campaign, but there was very few games if any that had this team knocking on the door with just a few breaks here or there to turn the tables.
“We have become more mature than when we started this season and we will continue to grow,” Coach Gallagher said with resolve.
The Hawks were hard pressed with seven errors and that certainly helped in spelling doom for this game and this year for CL.
Sophomore Robinson was asked what Junior Robinson would be working on this off season, “Improving my pitching and everything in general….I have a lot more room to grow and in becoming a leader….we (the team) needs to come in and work hard.”

Sad ending for a couple of Seniors, but a bright future is certainly in the future as next Spring could be the year your Hawks Spring Eternal.

What did it mean playing Softball and what wisdom would you impart to this team?
Emma Broussard, “I will miss them (the team) a lot and just playing and bonding as teammates was a great experience…They may be young, but they should never give up, they are an amazing group and they have grown up to be good softball players.”
Brianna Young, “Gaining a new family that works hard is one of the best things you can get… and I could not have asked for a better team…Keep swinging and working hard and never give up and don’t back down…
On finishing this year with the team’s best batting average, “I just wanted to be there to help my team and grow as a player and a person.”
