Cows Hiding as Hawks Tear Cover off Ball in win over Seminole, 12-0
Cows were seen running for the hills after Canyon Lake’s softball game with Seminole ended on a run rule, 12-0 as the Hawks finished the tournament undefeated and one tie.
Canyon Lake hit the cover off the ball with 13 hits as all but one Hawk batter made it to base safely.
With just one game of stats not complete the Hawks can go 8 batters with a .300 batting average or higher.
Carly Dubois who carries a .398 lifetime batting average looks anemic with a .351 so far this season.
The Hawks have found their bat and the result is Cows heading for the hills to protect their hide as CL was busy trying to find some leather to rewrap the balls hit throughout this 3 day tournament.
A sampling of Hawk Batters and their lethal bats thus far:
name batting ave on base per slugging per Alexis Robinson .552 .618 1.103 Kat Weber .552 .606 .759 Kirsten Jones .500 .545 .533 Lauren Mentzer .467 .515 .600
You get the idea as those slugging percentages is what has those cows fearing for their hide.
Canyon Lake started their final game with Seminole scoring 3 runs on just one hit.
Then the flood gates opened as the Hawks batted .706 for the rest of this contest with a couple of walks thrown in for fun.
Canyon Lake’s team stats are also impressive compared to past years:
batting average on base percentage slugging percentage 2016 .396 2016 .459 2016 .525 2014 .323 2014 .397 2014 .475 2015 .320 2015 .391 2015 .410 2011 .283 2012 .364 2012 .379 2013 .272 2011 .342 2013 .369 worst year? 2010 .229 2010 .286 2010 .276
Alexis Robinson had another superb game in giving up just two hits and walking one batter as the Indians were able to get just 3 batters with more than one at bat.
Yes, Robinson also had her 9th home run for her career as that homerun ball was last seen rolling past the street in search for a cow as the ball was embarrassed by it’s lack of clothing.
“I’m just trying to stay humble and waiting and working for district,” ‘Babe’ Robinson said. “I want to work on still being at my peak when district games start.”
Players are certainly playing at a level not seen many times on the Hawk diamond.
Senior Kirsten Jones started this season with a .271 batting average and has already raised that to a respectable .310 average as you would not want to get into a slapping contest with this player.
“I have been working on my swing,” Jones said while slapping this reporter. (not really) “This is my last year and I want to get my job done as I had struggled and I want us to go to the playoffs.”
Jones has taken control of her bat and has the ability to place the ball on the field where good things have happened frequently this season.
Jones presently has the longest hitting streak for CL with an 8 game stint after this morning’s game and has now, hit safely in 11 of 12 games as this season continues to plug along.
Canyon Lake will go on the road this next Tuesday as they will visit Fredericksburg and then finish the week in the Blanco tournament.
After that? District 26-4A starts with a vengeance as your Hawks visit Yoakum before welcoming Gonzales on March 11th.
Focus and good pitching while repetition on the field will only help as this young team continues to jell while hunting for some cows so they are not left looking at Softballs that have the right covering.
Go Hawks!!
