Softball Hawks Persevered in Win, 4-3

Unknown-1

Canyon Lake persevered in their first tournament game played on Thursday against Johnson City, 4-3.

“We did not give up and persevered,” Head Softball Coach John Gallagher stated. “We started slow but our pitching was very good and we got it done in the last inning.”

Drama was part of the action as both teams scored in their final at bat as the Hawks pushed across the winning run with 2 outs after a Alexis Robinson walk.

That base on balls had Robinson scooting to second base with a steal and then an error on a throw to second allowed Kirsten Jones to score that winning run.

Going into the 5th inning had both teams with a total of just one hit and then errors and clutch hitting took the stage for the finish.

JC Eagles opened their half of the inning with a single which was also their first hit of the morning.

A sacrifice moved the Eagles to second where an error on a Hawk outfielder getting both runs to score.

Johnson City scored again on another Hawk error until Robinson struck out her ninth batter and then a ground out to end the inning.

The Eagles looked to be in control after scoring 3 runs in a game that had your Hawks with just one hit.

Freshman Bailey Bryan opened the 5th inning with a bunt single and then Tiare Kacir responded with a bloop single to right field and after two stolen bases, Canyon Lake, would have two runners in scoring position.

Char Hutson worked a walk for putting a Hawk on each base and set-up for some scoring.

Carly Dubois hard hit to the pitcher would help Johnson City to get the lead batter at home plate but CL still had the bases full with just one out.

Enter Kirsten Jones and a seeing eye double braking the scoring drought and give the Hawks a chance.

Robinson would then work a walk and then as she stole 2nd base and the Eagles errant throw would score two more Hawks and give them the lead and win.

Canyon Lake still has problems with poor fielding but Robinson’s pitching was stellar as she did not walk an Eagle and held them to just two hits in this win.

Now, CL, will play 3 games on Friday as they work on getting more wins and continue on working on their game.
