Canyon Lake started their 2016 campaign with two losses against Schertz Clemens and Liberty Hill on Monday at the Hawk Gym.

Clemens was lethal as the Hawks found it hard to get offensive points that was not a result of a service ace.

“Clemens came out dominating,” Head Coach Kim Paisley started. “Liberty Hill played them better than we did….we had too many errors.”

Canyon Lake was a step late or pass gone awry throughout the contest.

“We would have a great dig and then hit the ball out of bounds,” Coach Paisley lamented. “Our intensity level picked up after that first set, they will have to set themselves apart and show that they are ready to play.”

In the 3 set sweep, Canyon Lake got an offensive point in the third stanza giving an idea of how tough the

A lot of new faces after a talented 2015 team graduated and a work in progress will be apparent as the Hawks go back to practice in preparation for Tex-Fest in Wimberley starting this Friday.

Each game with Clemens, the Hawks, increased their scoring after starting on the wrong end of the stick by 25-14 to start the season.

“We were scattered playing Clemens and we will be passing a ton this week because we have to get better,” Paisley said with conviction. “Getting better and more consistent while getting a more quick offense.”

The Liberty Hill game had a more competitive Hawk team losing 3-2 in the best of 5 contest.

All but the first game was won by just 2 points. In that first game, CL, played their best ball winning 25-17 but the Panthers answered the bell and made their comeback to finish their day 1-1.

Junior Faith Hasness had a team high 22 kills for the two games and Mickey finished with a 2 game total of 35 Assists.

The Hawks are in Pool 3 with previously mentioned Marion, Cuero, Caddo Mills, and Johnson City.
