CL Hawk’s Volleyball Sweep Burnet for Bi-District Title
Canyon Lake Hawks won their first play-off game as a 3rd seed with a sweep of 2nd Seed Burnet in Dripping Springs on Tuesday night, 3-0.
This Bi-District game was the 4th Bi-District conquest in a row and now CL will attempt another hurdle in winning their Area Game this Thursday.
Canyon Lake was able to stay away from unforced errors and topped that off with some good passes that led to an array of kills from multiple players.
“We closed out,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “We had a good practice and we played much better…yes, there are some things we still need to work on but overall we played well.”
“We were focused throughout this game,” Coach Paisley finished.
Closing out was the key phrase on this night as each set was tight with scores of 12-12 and 13-12 and then the Hawks would find their 2nd wind and finished out with runs in winning by 7 and 9 points.
Freshman Megan Vorhis led CL with 11 kills and 3 blocks as she dominated the front line.
“Their offense is slower,” Vorhis stated. “I was able to adjust to their scrappy play style.”
Canyon Lake had their 3rd set being a tougher out as some of those unforced and service errors kept Burnet in the game.
The Hawks reached double digit unforced errors and during the beginning of the set had 5 service errors which was one less that the Bulldogs points scored during this part of the battle.
In those first two sets, The Lake had just two service errors which helped in keeping the pressure on Burnet for a sweep.
Coach Paisley mentioned how good the passing was and Junior Lainee Moses was able to play Libero throughout the contest which seemed to help in her consistency.
“I really started working hard in practice,” Moses said. “I was trying my best to keep the LIbero and I feel more comfortable there.”
Canyon Lake had topped Burnet during the first tournament in August with a 2-0 sweep and did not let that score dictate how hard this game would need to be and being able to focus was a missing element in that, used to be, three game losing streak that ended the season.
Every District 28-4A school won their first round games against District 27-4A which does show some dominance between of the two districts.
CL will now have a short week with their Area contest coming this Thursday in Flatonia off of Interstate 10. The contest will start at 8pm as part of a double header playoff night.
Bellville Brahmas are ranked in the Top 10 according to Max-Preps and will be a much better team than Burnet as each contest will get tougher.
Good Luck and Go Hawks!!
