Hawk Boy’s Basketball has Pay Back in Wins at Marion Tourney

Canyon Lake finished their Marion Tournament at .500 with those two wins coming against schools that had won a previous contest against The Lake.

The Hawks had pay back time in disposing of the host (Marion) by 10 points that had all but one Hawk to score in this win, 61-51.
“Overall we played much better on the defensive end of the floor than we have all season,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman surmised. “We really focused on our communication and playing hard on that end of the floor, and we did so in all four games. I was really happy about that. Offensively, we just have to continue to find ourselves and put guys in position where we can be successful. We opened it up some and really focused on pushing the tempo against Marion, and we did some good things. We just need some more consistency and must be able to finish around the rim at a higher rate. All in all it was a beneficial two days, and we certainly grew. It’s always good to come home with hardware.”
Rico Griffin finished with a double-double corralling 11 rebounds to go along with his 24 points that included 8 made free throws. Those freebies was one less that Griffin had acquired through the first 8 games.
Canyon Lake had an awakening from the charity stripe in scoring 29 points in those Saturday battles that had CL finishing with a respectable 83% from the line.
In winning those two games that were previous losses bodes well in giving an indication on how this Hawk team is improving.
In the Saturday loss, Canyon Lake committed 26 turnovers that helped turn a 9 point lead to a 9 point loss agains San Antonio Christian.

Trent MacRoberts was the only Hawk to score in double digits with 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting while Patrick McAuliffe was perfect from the line sinking all 5 shots attempted.
Canyon Lake will be back in action this Tuesday when they play their 2nd home game of the season against Gonzales before finishing this week-end hosting the Canyon Lake Classic Tournament with two games on Friday and Saturday.
One of those contests will give CL another chance to exact revenge after suffering a loss to SAC in the Marion Tourney.
