CL Hawks Ladies Shut-out Floresville, 2-0 Katy Tourney is Next
A cold night turned warmer after a Hawk, 2-0 win over Floresville.
Canyon Lake Lady Soccer (6-2) corralled their 6th win of the season after a shut-out victory over 5A Floresville in non-district action at the Hawk Nest, 2-0.

The Hawks finished in 3rd Place in last week’s Pleasanton Tournament with a 4-2 record and continued that momentum with this win as this team prepares for the Katy Tournament this week starting on Thursday.
“We have goals we want to reach,” Head Coach Kara Stracener stated when asked how this group will go into this week’s tournament. “They work hard and this year we have athletes and they work their tails off and we are starting to play like a winner and able to enjoy our individual roles now….all that hard work is paying off.”
That was certainly the case in this win over Floresville (4-1) with several players not dressed while other’s were able to join the team after playing a basketball game across the street. It was the Tigers first set-back this season.
Freshman Gabi Pace was the offense on this night in scoring both goals with one each per half.
“I don’t know how I did that,” Pace said after being asked how she was able to control ball for 80 yards for that first score. “This feels good as a freshman to be able to help and now we are hoping we can get ready for district and we have to keep it up.”

Pace paced herself on that first goal as she dribbled down the far sideline for an eventual one on one (with the goalie) for the score.
The past few years, The Lake, has not been as imposing as needed and now with 6 wins after a 3-7-3 season during last year’s Covid Season and then a 1-13 season two years ago with only 9 total goals scored.
This has been a pleasant surprise for a group of ladies ready to seize more wins in preparing for a tough district.
On last week’s Pleasanton Tournament, Coach Stracener said, “I was really proud of the heart and fight the girls played with all weekend. Six full games in 3 days is very taxing physically and mentally and two of our game were come from behind wins. For them to finish 3rd place behind two 5A schools and then beat another 5A team in the last game was big for our program and big for building our culture. We still have a lot to improve on and a lot of season ahead of us, so I am looking forward to practice and to build on what happened this past weekend.”
Now the Hawks will have a chance to up their game with some 6A schools in the Katy tourney this week.
