                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake will in a battle for the back-bone this week when #3 Ranked Wimberley Texans meet the #23 ranked Hawks this Friday.

WHS holds the all-time record with a convincing 10-3 record after a comeback win last year, 24-22 finish. There has been 3 games that has been decided by 10 or less points and the Texans have won all 3 of those battles.

This will be the first game where both teams have met that has both schools ranked in the top 25. That 2011 season had an undefeated Hawk team but being 5 years old did not have enough voters convinced to rank that upstart CL team.

It should be another good contest compared to last year’s match-up with both teams ready to make a statement coming out of the gates.

Wimberley has the advantages based on their name and skins on the wall that have been crafted over several successful campaigns.

Canyon Lake is still in their infancy in this regard after coming up short during those previous seasons that had The Lake primed to make that next step that could have put this program on the, ‘look at us’, limelight.

The Hawks are still a team that has been average in many respects which mirrors their all-time record of 73 wins and losses coming into this season. To be fair, that record does include a 1-9 record during that first year. With that thought, Canyon Lake would be 8 games over .500 and still waiting for that break out campaign.

CL finished 1-5 in contests decided by 7 or less points and led in all but one going into the 4th quarter.

Those numbers reflect games with several ranked opponents showing just how close The Lake had come for that break-out that is needed for state wide recognition.

This Friday has a chance of breaking through and that starts on the defensive side of the ball that will be up against a lethal Wimberley offensive unit.

The Hawks held the Texans to 24 points last year and that same type of effort will be needed if CL hopes to be 1-0 going into their game at La Grange that next week.

Canyon Lake had 5 players with hopes of becoming the starting quarterback this season. As of this writing, that decision has not been decided. But there could be 4 good athletes moving to the defensive side or one of those other offensive positions.

Two ranked teams in a rivalry game on Friday night, it doesn’t get any better than this:

Go Hawks!!
