CLJV Run Roughshod Over Elgin JV as Wimberley comes Calling

CLJV will open their season this Thursday in Wimberley.

CL Hawks JV will go into their opening season battle in good spirits after taking care of Elgin JV for their final scrimmage before a road trip to Wimberley.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!!

CLJV had a sub-par outing last week against Cuero and needed a strong showing before starting a tough stretch of games.

Now all of those early morning practices will be displayed against an old foe that took CL Freshman last year for a long ride that did not end well.

A chance to have to have a better showing this Thursday in Wimberley.

CLJV dominated the scrimmage with Elgin JV and showed improvement from that first scrimmage with the Gobblers.

The question is did this week’s outcome show an improvement based on the week before? That poses a tough thought for a team that played two opposite opponents in terms of strength.

“This was a good game and we did better than last week’s scrimmage,” Wyatt Bates said with resolve. “We shot-off good and we needed this type of game because we play our rival and we don’t want to lose that game.”

Bates was a battling ram in the running game and doubled up that same type of effort on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage.

Adrian Duque was another Hawk that brought his ‘A’ game to this scrimmage after missing that first game with Cuero.

Adrian Duque and Wyatt Bates will bring more energy to game abasing Wimbo.

“We will need to bring more spring next week,” Duque said looking down to the ReSporter. “We are not done yet…we will have to bring it a lot harder.”

“Exploding off the ball and hit them before they can hit us,” Duque continued concentrating on next week’s battle with the Texans. “We will need to bring more energy.”

That tells the story from just two of the players but knowing what happened in this Elgin Scrimmage will not be the same when the Backbone Schools meet in less than a week.

This Junior Varsity will need to up their game and show improvement after a .500 campaign last year. The good news that CL was in most of those games and getting better and upping their game has the potential of having much better outcomes this year.

Let’s Go JV Hawks!!
