Canyon Lake gobbled up Cuero with a 5 run fifth inning that led to an 8-3 Bi-District win and will now advance to an Area Round series against Needville.

Keep it going Hawks and Fly High!!

“Anything can happen and I think we were a little tight,” Head Baseball Coach Victor Escamilla started when commenting the Cuero encounter.

On how the team will prepare for next opponent (Needville), “They have speed and we will need to anticipate and execute.”

These same schools met last year with the only difference is seeding with Needville as the first seed and CL with a 2nd seed.

On a hot day, The Lake, played a consistent game in taking care of Cuero. Chase Anderson and Griffen Williams both led the Hawks with 3 hits that had some pizzazz.

Williams had one hit travel over the rail-road tracks in left-field fence and Chase Anderson started the 5th inning sliding into 1st base beating the Gobbler for an infield single.

“It was hot,” Williams said like a weatherman. “I had a lot of confidence and sat back on the ball…it was a curve ball and I made him (the pitcher) pay for it.”

Chase Anderson, Griffen Williams, and Hunter Anderson all smiles on Hot Win!

The homer led to a Hawk lead, 3-2 and Chase Anderson’s single started a 5 run inning giving The Lake separation needed on this first round Bi-District battle.

“It was pretty dope,” Chase Anderson said. “I knew it would be a close play and by sliding I would have a better chance of beating him to first.”

On how starting an inning in this manner and what it does for the team, “It got our dugout up and brought our momentum up for everyone.”

It was Hayden Baker who put an exclamation point during the 5th frame with a bases clearing double down the 3rd base line. Baker continues to shine since the end of the Fredericksburg series his .204 batting average has been installed with helium rising to a respectable .258 for the season.

Texas Country is Proud of CL’s Bi-District Win over Cuero!!

Baker has been performing well from the field with this being 5 games since his last error playing short-stop.

Speed kills which has certainly been seen with bunt singles and stolen bases giving head-aches to Cuero’s infield helping in closing out this one game elimination contest.

Hunter Anderson commented on who was a better bunter compared to his brother, “I’m a better bunter hands down.”

On CL’s next opponent, “They return a lot of guys and can hit up and down their lineup. We will need to focus at the plate…their pitcher is good and it will take all of us to beat them.”

Not known at this writing when and where CL’s games with Needville will come about, but keep your eyes on The ReSporter for more in depth articles and needed info.

Way to GO HAWKS!!
