A new semester starting for Canyon Lake with what could be some promising sports for this time of year.

                  Way to go Hawks!!

Basketball has now entered their district part of the schedule and both clubs have an uphill battle for garnering a chance for post-season play.

CL’s Ladies are much younger than they were even compared to last season with no seniors and one junior as a starter.

Basically a team that would be considered a Junior Varsity is competing against varsity schools.

There are 4 district teams that have been ranked in the top 25 in the state of Texas this year giving an idea of that steep climb needed for these ladies.

CL’s Boys team has already passed their amount of wins combining the last two seasons’ of 8 victories.

The Hawks are presently, 10-15 and have an, 0-2 district record.

There is a better chance for this group being able to punch a post-season ticket and reversing an overtime loss to Fredericksburg and winning out against similar district foes will still require a step up for that chance.

                      Let’s GO HAWKS!!

Soccer has started their season and the Ladies will be a team to keep a close eye on as this group has some talent to compete in what is another tough district.

The Lady Hawks disposed of SAC (San Antonio Christian) scoring a, 6-2 win against a team that sported a, 5-1-1 record going into that contest.

CL (2-0) also won their opening tournament game against SA McCollum, 9-0 on Thursday.

Private schools have already 8 or more games and are ahead of UIL teams in that category. SAC’s tie against SA Antonian will give an idea of what this opening day win might be have in store.

Antonian has an impressive, 10-0-3 record and that school had a, 1-1 score against a SAC team that saw CL score 6 goals.

                             Go Hawks!!

SAC had allowed 7 goals in their first 7 battles and your Hawks hung 6 goals in that one game.

“We are starting to figure some things out offensively, sort of a style of play,” Head Coach Kara Stracener stated. “Still have a lot of work to do with our team defensively and we look forward to the tournament this weekend to continue working on those things.”

Another game to mark on your calendar is for next Tuesday (January 10th) when Burnet will come to the Hawk Nest. These Bulldogs are picked as one of the top schools and this early contest will give a good indication of what this group of ladies can do. **Not many home games for Ladies Soccer so this is a must see.

When spring arrives in a few weeks the Hawks will have other Hawk teams that have a possibility for hanging some more skins on their proverbial walls.

Softball finished their best (record wise) season after enjoying a, 19-10-1 season last year.

Another CL team that will have several players returning and this group will have a couple of holes needed to be filled.

       Hawk Proud

Emma Lane and Riley Glenn-Millhouse will be hard to replace but there are several players ready to step in after enjoying a good Fall season.

This year’s team will have 3 to 4 ladies that can be used in the circle (pitching) which should allow this team to shore up a defense for a good run.

Baseball continues to be a team that has a chance of matching CL’s Football team as the only Hawk sport with 2 district championships.

Baseball is loaded with several seniors and pitching did lose an all-time leader (Tanner Schultz) in wins. There are still 3 pitchers that have performed well so that hole will not be as big of a need.

CL’s hitting lineup was the biggest need on last year’s squad and that will be the main item to watch as who might be able to fill a batting order with more players becoming tough outs in that, 7-8-9 part of the lineup.

                  Proud of these Hawks!!

Baseball will have close to 50 players this season which has been a strong suit for fielding good teams with competition coming from those players wanting a chance to prove themselves and make varsity.

The Ladies Track & Field team has a chance to be the strongest track team this year. Last season these Hawks sent their most participants (6) to Austin for the State Meet. All of those ladies are returning this season and there were a couple of ladies who just missed an opportunity to join their teammates.

A returning State Champion in the Pole Vault and a must see Alencia Lentz try to top her State Meet record, 13-06.00. Senior Lentz signed to go to Baylor and continue her Pole Vaulting.

Exciting times for sure and as Always GO HAWKS!!
